What part of Marxist don't you understand?

I am a Reagan Conservative. I came of age in my political thought during Reagan’s rise and was inspired by his faith in people and the love of our Country. I think it was Reagan who said, “If people have a choice between a Democrat and a Democrat, they will always choose the Democrat”. What I always took this to mean is People will always chose the candidate who held strong beliefs in core political values over the middle of the road candidate.
The choice in this election is between a Democrat and a democrat (little d intentional). It is October 28, 2008 and I do not yet know for whom I will vote. I am as mad as hell.
Obama is a Democrat to the core. He unabashedly promotes their cause. McCain is at best a moderate Democrat who calls himself a Republican. Other than security issues, McCain has shown repeatedly, he is willing to change his vote, if not his views, to appease the other side.
I believe that this nation has lost its way. Led by business people without a sense of obligation to do anything for country. People once built a business in hopes of making a product that would provide a profit and in turn profit the community and country as well. In the past corporations such as NCR, GE or GM would never have considered conducting business in a manner destructive to the community to which they belonged or the country they lived. Could you ever imagine GE doing business with any country that was considered an enemy during any previous war? That has changed. Today corporations such as GE only exist to make a buck and everything is on the table if the bottom line is improved. That is why we had companies like GE helping Iran with their nuclear program and investors betting on the failure of the housing market while setting up its ultimate failure only to make obscene amounts of money. All in the name of enriching them and the Corporations they serve but at the expense of country and honor. Factory and Auto Jobs gone to Mexico and China, but the crash and failure of those corporations is to be paid for by our taxes to now bail them out. Where is obligation and morality?
Obama or McCain will not influence in any way the path we follow with regard to moral issues. No matter what the law is. People will or will not seek out an abortion based on their own moral compass. Issues such as abortion and same sex marriage are changed in the heart of people based on their relationship with their God. Institutions and their allowances or mandates only reflect the hearts of the masses they serve. Institutions will only change when the desires of the people are influenced by personal morality. We should not waste or efforts fighting laws that allow people to make the wrong moral choice for no law will ever stop that, but rather we should demand the removal of laws that prevent or punish us for doing the right thing.
This Nations attitude concerning these moral issues are not the result of bad Government, rather the moderation of ones own beliefs to make our lives more convenient, which are then, supported by our Churches. A Church that does not rail against followers who openly support matters completely contrary to what is right and wrong or against the doctrine of their church is not a church but a weekend support group.
My dilemma. To vote for a Democrat or an in name only Republican that may crush any hope of Reagan conservatism returning.

I doubt one Freeper in 20 supported McCain in the early Primaries... but the other choices after it was clear Duncan Hunter wouldn’t win and Fred Thompson didn’t develop and the Dems nominate a mega-liberal, McCain became the best choice.
Very sad about Sarah Palin, though - good policies and likable but not much depth and she totally lost me saying abortion clinic bombers aren’t terrorists.
All in all, you have a good analogy - a waterfall election.
But I’d still rather be an American in America than anyone else anywhere else. We’ll come through.

Then there's your ludicrous idea that abortion and gay marriage will be unaffected by who takes office. The next President will appoint two or more Supremes, who will either rule in favor of abortion and in favor of forcing states to recognize other states' gay unions, or will reject slaughter, perversion and oppression. The next president will also either sign or veto the Freedom of Choice Act. That alone could cost or save millions of lives over the next generation.
In short, when you say you're a Reaganite you're either lying or deluded.

Yes, yes, and why have a competent commander-in-chief when we can have a neophyte who kisses terrorist ass? And why have a guy who's committed to appointing pro-life judges when we can have a guy who has actually voted to keep infanticide legal and promised to sign the Freedom of Choice Act? Moreover, someone who says we should let Senator Soiled Utility Room appoint a couple of Supremes because it won't end abortion tomorrow is no Reagan conservative.

Somehow, I don’t think he means/meant this literally. But I also wonder just how bad the Republican nominee would have to be, before that would happen.
The bozos (yes, I went there and I bought real estate!) who are telling me it's out of bounds for a conservative to back McCain generally ignore the fact that Reagan backed Ford, even after I've pointed it out to them. "DOES NOT COMPUTE!!! DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!"
The problem is, if one is to say that this time is different, and McCain is someone Reagan would reject, accepting an Obama presidency, one must accept one of the following premises:
1. McCain is significantly more liberal than Ford.
2. Jimmy Carter was vastly more of a danger to the Republic than Barack Obama.
I say "NO SALE" on both those premises. Sitting out this one or voting third party is about ego, not Reaganism. I would also note that Al Qaeda has made their endorsement.

I’m not so confident. I think the American people are at the tipping point, with more people getting benefits than paying taxes. And Obama and ACORN are doing everything they can to undermine our confidence in our electoral process.
We’ve only been around for 220 years, a short moment in time. Our system is held in place only by a thin veneer of civilization that restrains the beast within, and a sense of civic responsibility, that is rapidly being eroded and being replaced by a growing sense of entitlement.
