'Rock legends Led Zeppelin are planning to tour and record but without frontman Robert Plant.

Bassist John Paul Jones told BBC Radio Devon that a new singer was being sought after Plant ruled himself out.

The last time the band performed together was at the O2 arena in London in December 2007.

Speculation has since been rife that the surviving members of the band, with Jason Bonham, son of their late drummer John Bonham, would go back on the road.

Jones, speaking at a guitar show in Exeter, Devon said: "We are trying out a couple of singers.

"We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there." '

I saw that show a few months back. It was great!

I went in not knowing what to expect, didn’t know who Allison Krauss was, was there just because of Plant. It was really something special, quite a performance. I wish they would put out a live DVD from the tour, I’d really like recordings of their Zeppelin covers.

Yeah. I mean, the kids I meet are all guitar students, so it’s probably a skewed sample, but it is encouraging. That video game Guitar Hero has been a tremendous boon to the guitar industry. It has led many, many kids to take up the guitar for real.

It’s going to be Steven Tyler of Aerosmith, folks. Expect the show to feature 75% Zeppelin tunes, and 25% Aero tunes.

Rod Stewart, Ron Wood, and Ian McLagen are supposed to stage a Faces reunion tour in 2009.

That would be cool!

Well, what do they want to do then? Just use the Led Zeppelin name to haul in some cash?

Yes, because even Page and Plant can't go anywhere (even separately) and answer questions without being bombarded with "When are you going to reform? When is the next LZ album???"

And even if answered, they will be asked again and again at the same gathering.

Maybe if the band jumps the shark, they can get people to focus on what they've been doing for more than 25 years now (post-Zep).

Didn't the 5 Neat Guys sing Stairway To Heaven?

It was the B-Side to "Who Made the Egg Salad Sandwiches?"

Maybe they should tour the way they started, as the New Yardbirds.

Maybe they could get Pamela Des Barres to sing (she was in the GTOs in the sixties and intimately knew many musicians).

THEN:

and now:
