Steven Edwards: McCain's Palin problems make Romney look better all the time
National Post ^ | October 27, 2008, 1:22 PM | Kelly McParland

... Sarah Palin is in revolt, it’s reported, angry that John McCain’s handlers forced her to wear haute couture; that she’s not been able to be herself before the media; and that Republican campaign strategy -- like the decision to give up on Michigan -- is askew.

....

It's all about the political makeover of the Republican Party’s new great hope.

For many senior Republicans, Obama appears sure to prevail Nov. 4 ...

Advice is already incoming: She should at all costs avoid running for Congress, writes Ron Bonjean, former communications director for Speaker Dennis Hastert and Senate majority leader Trent Lott.

“If Palin ran for the Senate, she quickly becomes part of the establishment,” he says, advising her to return to Alaska where she can remain politically active as its chief executive, yet still build on her new-found fame.

He also suggests party chiefs should surround Palin with “the brightest people,” meaning they “cannot be friends or neighbours with questionable qualifications.”

In what would mark a strategic shift in the way the party promotes its 2012 candidate, Bonjean says Palin should lead a recruitment drive among people serving in local, city and state offices who could spread the “Palin Change” message across America.

As for this election, McCain’s folly at not having picked Mitt Romney as his running mate is now all too apparent as the economy dives. The Republican presidential candidate’s turn southward in the polls mirrored the mid-September shock to the world financial markets, which propelled the economy and its future to the number one concern of U.S. voters.

Romney is PO’d and he doesn’t forgive easily.

Feel free to leave the GOP, Willard. Don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

I haven’t seen where Romney has been vindictive... while I like Sarah c’mon guys/ladies Mitt is a lot more experienced. A lot of us are hung up on him being Morman (take that out of the equation and I think a lot of us would be supportive of him)
I’d love to see a Palin vs Romney in the next primary, that is unless John can pull this one out.

Is today November 5th? Is Senator Obama the president-elect? The drive by media is playing up this “family feud” nonsense within the GOP to divide and conquer, just as they are using their own skewed polls to declare him “inevitable” and downplaying Senator McCain's chances, and some sheeple are drinking it in. WAKE UP!

Exactly right.

At least Obama believes in the things he says (wealth redistribution) Romney on the other hand is a known liar. Also, any Republican that trashed Palin like he has (in secret) needs to be drummed out.

No matter how much polish some people try to shine on Romney, he’s still a turd.

Absolutely! Fred and Rudy have been everywhere for McCain. Today Rudy was with Cindy in S. Florida. True team players!

Exactly, Romney will go all out against Palin this week, he knows if she and McCain win then his presidential aspirations are d-e-a-d forever..... Why does anyone here think the Salt Lake Tribune endorsed Obama???? nothing happens in Utah without a reason.

I agree. Sarah is just fine, thank you very much. If McCain wins it will be largely a result of his selecting her as his running mate. I still maintain that of the top four she’d be the best candidate and President!

Bingo! One campaign in particular supported by the two Bush brothers cannot stand the thought that Sarah will become VP. It is so obvious when the writers that trash her Parker, this person, and the rest all wanted Romney. Did he ever call off the dogs — NO! He makes an occasional appearance and that’s about it.

Yes, politicians lie. But if you add up the lies, Obama, Hillary, Huckabee and McCain are way ahead of Romney in the total amount of lies.

Posting these articles is not helping Romney one bit if he ever decided to run again.

Is there anyone left that wants to see Willard run again?

Romney spent more for less votes than any candidate for the nomination.

As a self proclaimed economic guru, Romney should realize that a product with such a dismal return on investment is not one that instills confidence.

There is also a time to ‘promote your brand’ and a time to be a ‘team player’. Romney is all about the self-promotion and very little about the team.

I used to like Romney but thought he was a bad candidate. Now I do not like Romney and am still convinced he is a bad candidate.

Yes, everyone on the democratic "left", so their candidate wins! LOL

Sorry, folks. Mitt’s a handsome cuss, but he’s never gonna look better than Sarah Palin.

It's all jive. It just gives the lazy and the weak an opportunity to become distracted and another reason not to get off their asses and vote.

I like Sarah c’mon guys/ladies Mitt is a lot more experienced.

Yeah, he has four years of experience implementing liberal policy in Massachusetts while Sarah has two years of implementing Reagan-like policies in Alaska.

Romney is yesterday's news. He is absolutely done in the GOP.

Certainly not me! I wouldn’t support him and neither would most of the people from the other campaigns. We have seen enough of him to last a long time.

Anyone that compares his sons working in his campaign to serving in the military, I don’t want to know.
