Palin's off-script comments irk McCain aides
CNN ^ | 11:26 a.m. EDT, Mon October 27, 2008

Some aides to Sen. John McCain say they weren't happy that running mate Sarah Palin went off script Sunday...Palin deviated from her prepared remarks to talk about her wardrobe controversy Sunday.

... A senior McCain adviser told CNN those comments "were not the remarks we sent to her plane." ...A Palin aide said that the governor clearly felt like she had to say something to defend herself, because "that's really not who she is."

... sources told CNN that long-brewing tensions between Palin and key aides to McCain were on the rise.

McCain advisers suggested that they have become increasingly frustrated with what one aide described as Palin "going rogue."

McCain sources say Palin has gone off-message several times, and they privately wonder whether the incidents were deliberate. They cited an instance in which she labeled robocalls -- used to attack a candidate's opponent -- "irritating" even as the campaign defended their use. Also, they pointed to her telling reporters she disagreed with the campaign's decision to pull out of Michigan.

A McCain source says she appears to be looking out for herself more than the McCain campaign.

"She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," this McCain adviser said. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else.

"Also, she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party... ...But this Palin source acknowledged that Palin is trying to take more control of her message, pointing to an impromptu news conference on a Colorado tarmac last week.

CNN contributor and Republican strategist Ed Rollins said Palin was "mishandled" during the earlier part of the campaign, and as a result, "she's become a target of a lot of ridicule."

She needs to keep it up...she’s trying to drag John McCain across the finish line.

Why doesn't the McCain camp call out these reporters for the liars they are ? I am sure all the staff will agree to waive any background privilege as surely there is no none so disloyal to the Mav that they would leak this kind of information about rumored infighting .

The only life period, as there was no life to his campaign before he brought her on board. If these are actual campaign personnel, they need to be fired. It’s just as likely though that they are phantoms, made up entirely by CNN to support Obama.

Amen, brother. Without her they’d lose by 20 points. With her they have a chance. Felony Stupid: they let the Katie Couric stuff go on day after day after day instead of putting her on someplace else right away too.

Romney stand no chance against Gov Palin after 4 years as a successful VP. For Mitt to move forward, Palin has to loose.

Shall we poll Sarah Palin's family on the matter?

Whomever this wretch is, he/she should be tarred and feathered dumped in the Arizona dessert.

This is a bogus story.

The CNN/ABC/NBC/CBS/MSM’s are going after her with everything they’ve got, and its not because she is a drag on the McCain campaign, its because she is the one thing that has kept him in the game. Without her they’d have frozen him out and his presidency would be safely smothered in the crib.

As it is she has injected exactly the life into his campaign that he needed. They’ve got to take her down because 5 seconds after they do, McCain gives up the ghost. It isn’t going to happen, though. They just may win. They have to overcome the ACORN factor, the inmate factor, the dead voter factor, but they may just do it.

McCain should get all his ‘top aides’ on a conference call and demand those who were sources for this story to man up and admit it. Then he should fire them.

Sounds like the McCain camp needs a serious shake up in personnel again.

Those aides are not doing Team McCain any favors by complaining about Palin’s remarks.
