CBS showed the movie "Cinderella Man" at 8:00 p.m. on Oct. 25, 2008, and around 9:15 p.m., the movie showed taking the Lord's name in vein, and the Holy family, several times. This is inappropriate and should be illegal on the public's free airways. CBS could have easily cut that from what we thought was a family movie.
You’re easily amused.
Not really.
so what... it's still not a family movie... just because you are watching it with your family does not make it so... it's a movie about boxing... you're surprised with the profanity? it's not a movie that was marketed to families... nor is it a movie about Christians... it's a movie with characters who are sinful in nature... to expect such characters to have your values is expecting too much... certainly your teenagers are at a place in their lives where they can handle that--observing "the world" from their particular worldview... who could have a better perspective?
“Damn, can you believe the crap they put on TV these days? I mean, what the hell is the world coming to?”
LOL
There is nothing as bad as seeing those Mr. Spread the wealth ads.
“Would you have absolutely NO LIMITS on the publics free airways?”
I understand that a lot of people wouldn’t want TV with absolutely no censorship because there would be offensive programing, but here’s the beauty of capitalism: if Americans want family oriented programming or channels, networks will create them. Sure there would be channels with adult oriented programs, but like one of the other Freepers said, most TV’s nowadays allow you to change the channel. Not only that, but almost all TV’s made in the last 10-15 years have V-chips, so if you want your house’s TV’s to stay rated G, no one’s stopping you. Also, if federal censorship were gotten rid of, there would be a lot more demand for TV’s with V-chips, and the businesses would comply so they can make more money. Again, capitalism and the free market solve the problem, and with much more freedom and efficiency than any government could. And finally, like the saying goes, freedom of speech isn’t there to protect the speech you like, it’s there to protect the speech you hate. If leftists think the same way as you next year (if, God forbid, they take the white house and congress in November), then say goodbye to Rush Limbaugh, Fox News, Howie Carr, Michael Savage, and every other medium they’ll deem “offensive.” It’s your kind of thinking on the part of the left that brought us the “fairness” doctrine, “hate crime” laws, and Don Imus’ crucifixion over the “nappy headed ho’s” comment. If you want social conservatives to be allowed to censor what they find offensive when they’re in charge, then you’ll just be giving the left that same ability whenever they’re in power
Same here. Saw it in the theatre as well as on TV. It was such an uplifting and inspiring story, I didn't even realize there was profanity in it. Shows what some people like to focus on, I guess.
Very thoughtful post, but don’t you see that the left is always telling us to “turn the channel,” if we don’t like the programming. It’s their talking point.
But yet the liberals aren’t turning the channel when it comes to talk radio, and as you say, are trying to reinstitute the (un)”Fair”ness Doctrine.
“Just maybe, just maybe if we cleaned up the airwaves we could clean up our culture and get rid of the libs, and the Obamas!”
You do realize you’re talking about a one party system, right? Even if we all completely agreed with the party in power, eventually all that concentrated power would corrupt everyone in the government. Getting rid of your political opponents always ends up leading to totalitarianism. That’s what happened with the nazis, the soviets, the maoists, and basically every current dictatorship. I don’t care what ideology the party would have, there’s absolutely no way it would end well. Learning from history is what separates us from the liberals. Let’s keep it that way.

Yes, but if we ban what we don’t like, we’ll look no better than these “fairness” doctrine supporting leftists. We need to let America know that we’re the party of freedom, individual rights, and following the Constitution. How do you justify under the Constitution telling networks what they can’t say on THEIR TV stations. The government didn’t create the networks, it doesn’t fund them, and the Constitution doesn’t give it authority over them. Unless you use the “living breathing document” logic like the idiots on the left, there’s no way to justify media censorship under the Constitution. Don’t make America have to choose between a liberal big government and a “conservative” big government. Either way they’ll be getting screwed over. And like I said, giving more power to a government may seem good to you when we’re in power, but whenever the left takes control, we’re gonna be in deep (censored).
So where's the limit? Is there one? Compare Daytime and Primetime programming 30 years ago to today. We once lived in a nation with standards. The sponsors will buy advertising on programming that sells. If we tell them we won't buy their product, they won't support certain programming. That's what killed CBS' hit piece on Ronald Reagan.
Or would you rather we continue in this direction?
You answered your own question. Sponsors won’t pay for programming that doesn’t sell, so if America is offended, they’ll stop the programming themselves so they don’t lose money. We can’t mandate programming to Americans telling them “it’s good for you.” This is a nation of standards, but it was founded on liberty; being able to choose what we want, not what the government says is good for us. Liberty has its down sides, but trying to fix those down sides would make things even worse. If people want to put themselves at risk by watching certain programming, that’s up to them. Just like some people decide to eat unhealthy foods, smoke, or not wear sunscreen. Freedom to fail is just as important as freedom to succeed. A life protected from anything bad is no life at all.
“Yes, but if we ban what we dont like, well look no better than these fairness doctrine supporting leftists.”
Why do we care what the left thinks? Do you think that’s going to change them? Do they care what we think?
We keep trying to be “fair,” but the left keeps gaining ground.
I have even been attacked for starting this thread. That’s OK, I can handle it, because I know I’m right.
Conservatives are being manipulated and desensitized and don’t even know it. The left speaks up, which is why they get their way.

Exactly. And if we don’t speak up, it will only get worse.
“Why do we care what the left thinks?”
I meant that we’ll look the same to Americans. I don’t care what the left thinks, but we need to be the party of small government and following the Constitution if the American people are going to realize how much better we are than the left.
Sponsors won't know America is offended unless America tells them.
Sun told Dunkin Donuts he was offended.
So what's the problem?
I don’t have a problem with him complaining to the sponsor(s), I’m just against his argument that the federal government should censor obscene or offensive language. We should let capitalism and the free market handle censorship. Networks will censor themselves because there will be a demand for family oriented programming, and adult oriented programming can be blocked with V-chips, which would probably be in every TV if federal censorship were thrown out because there would be a lot of demand for them from people who want their house’s TV to stay rated G. 9 times out of 10, the free market can handle things much better than any government could.
We got bigger things to worry about than naughty words. We're a nation at war!
God, save me from your followers.
Don’t worry about the govt. doing anything to inhibit any actions by the left, they will only do so with the right.
The squeaky wheel gets he grease, and the left is pretty squeaky.
btw, I love your user name, especially since I am a Navy daughter.
“Sponsors won’t know America is offended unless America tells them.”
Exactly.
