CBS EARLY SHOW co-anchor Harry Smith conducted an exclusive interview with Sen. Barack Obama earlier today in Richmond, Va. Among other topics, the senator told Smith why it’s so important for him to take a break from his campaign to see his grandmother. “My grandmother's the last one left,” Obama told Smith. The senator added, “She has really been the rock of the family, the foundation of the family.” Obama didn’t get to his mother before she died. “Yeah, got there too late,” he says. “You know, I mean, it was sort of like this, in the sense that she had a terminal illness. We knew she wasn't doing well, but you know, the diagnosis was such that we thought we had a little more time and we didn't. And so I want to make sure that I don't make the same mistake twice.”

I believe it was an hour.
And my question is “Why aren’t Michelle and children going?” I guess the answer is apparent to all. They were after all in a particular church for 20 years.

The Grandmother is the Rock of the Family, but they haven’t had a single picture taken together in 25 years?
She is the Rock of The Family, but he never brought the kids to Grandmas, the last time he was in Hawaii?
He doesn’t want to wait until it’s to late, so he is leaving Thursday, after announcing on, was it Monday or Tuesday, that she is “gravely” ill.
None of this makes sense, unless it’s a ruse.
My problem with Obama on this issue is that he has waited days to go and be with his ailing grandmother. Thats not right!
I think he’s just hanging around waiting for mccain to stop campaigning out of respect for the grandmother of the chosen one..

His handlers want a face to face about his Socialism slip. They’re starting to think Obama’s believing the many ads their paying for and forgetting who “owns” him.
Either that or they told him an attack is coming but they don’t know where - somewhere in the continental US - so Obambi is heading for safe ground. Grandma was a good excuse to get the hell out of dodge and save his own butt. He’ll leave the wife and daughter in the U.S. - if they get hit, he figures he’s a shoe in with sympathy - worth the risk.
Man, I feel evil even thinking this stuff. I pray each night that this man is not as evil as I think he is, but there’s just too many things about him we don’t know - no college scores, no writings, birth certificate, and $200 million in $200 donations? Tooooo much.

I believe it was before the Dem convention and Obambi was hiding...er, vacationing for a week in Hawaii. I don’t remember reading any accounts of him visitng his grandmother at that time. Yeah, she’s the rock of the family all right.

Actions speak louder than words, and what we’re getting here are only a lot of words from Barry. His Grandma has been very ill. She was in the hospital. Was released LAST week. Here we have Barry doing interview after interview talking about how close he is to Grandma and how he doesn’t want to get there “too late”. Wouldn’t the “normal” person have been there like days ago?? To use a word Barry likes to use a lot in his campaign speeches...We are being “hoodwinked” very badly here for some reason. I don’t sense that Barry is as close to Grandma as he trys to convince us he is. Empty suit...Empty words. My best to Grandma though.
He announced on Monday that he was leaving the campaign to go to Hawaii to see his gravely ill grandmother. Yet he isn’t actually going to fly to her until Thursday. Why wait if she is “gravely ill”? When you consider his comments that he didn’t make it to see his mother before she passed away, you have to ask that question even more emphatically. I understand her birthday is this Sunday but the timing, based upon all of Obama’s prior actions, is suspect.

Especially considering that he was and is a lawyer. And had been for four years! Seems he'd have been particularly adept at fighting the insurance companies. But that would have made it difficult to put the "bite" on them for his "community activist" activities.
