Miami bound? Orange Bowl executive likes BSU

The 2006 Boise State football season and 2007 Fiesta Bowl win was a moment Bronco fans will be talking about for generations.

For many it is still fresh and it has fans saying -- "Why not a repeat performance for the 2008 Broncos?"

They are off to a 6-0 start, and combined with the first BCS ranking that were released Sunday, it has Bronco nation excited about another trip to a BCS bowl game.

The Broncos debuted at number 12 in the BCS, but even before the rankings were released, a representative from the Orange Bowl was in town to scout this year's squad.

With the team's great start to the season, their storied BCS past, they are already a great candidate for the Orange Bowl.

"What we look at right now is the excitement in the community. Whether people will travel -- it's a 2,000 mile trip. But you know there's a lot of excitement here. You showed you'd bring the numbers in the Fiesta. So Boise State would obviously be an exciting choice for us," said Orange Bowl secretary Lynn Washington.

The Orange Bowl game will be held on Jan. 1, 2009, at the site of the national championship game, which is the Orange Bowl in Miami. The national championship game will be played a week later on Jan. 8.

Of course, Bronco fans need to keep all this in perspective as half the football season still remains.

Boise State has six more WAC conference games, including four on the road, and will have to win them all to keep their BCS bowl game dreams alive.

Only half way through the season. BSU is doing far better than expected this year.

I don't see it happening, but would be cool (er warm) to go to Miami to watch a game.

Wow, is this premature. If they are already thinking “Orange Bowl”, they’re in trouble. They were going to have a very tough time at San Jose State on Friday as it is.

I love that team, and that Game of theirs against OK was simply one of the best games of all time.

Having said that, their chances are slim. Their Strength of Schedule will take a beating, compared to the teams ahead of them, as the season progresses. In particular, the Florida Gators, at #10, will rise in the polls quickly, assuming they win out. They might even jump teams ahead of them in the poll at the moment, even if they all win out..

As a BSU and Bronco fan I am excited to hear this. But there is a long way to go yet. Moore, the freshman QB has been outstanding and the D is better than I expected by a ways. They could and probably should go undefeated again. Go Broncs!!

Maryland vs. Boise State in the Orange Bowl. I can’t wait!

Stop laughing! The Terps have about as much chance to be in the Orange Bowl as the Broncos do.

Yes, a long ways. They have 6 games left, 4 of which are on the road. San Jose State, New Mexico State, and Nevada will all be tough games to win, all on the road. If they don't play a great game in any of those games, they could easily lose.

Sounds like the Orange Bowl is doing a bit of tea leaf reading and wants to get their two cents in early....

Glad to see it...

It could be an interesting year if Utah and Boise run the table.. I dont see both of them getting BCS Bowls unless there is major carnage in the rankings. I suppose given that other than Penn State and USC all the power in the top ten are from the one of two conferences..
