When Northwest airlines laid off a passel of people, on the way out the door they gave them a helpful pamphlet on how to live in poverty. One of the useful suggestions was about getting good things out of dumpsters.

Oddly, I am within 3 months of paying off a house I bought for $42,000 twenty years ago, and managed to actually resist going INSANE with LOW, LOW INTEREST RATES ON A NEW HOME during the boom, and instead decided to live within my means so that my tax money could ultimate bail out those who were greedier than I.

Cards of the "Thank You" variety may go to 50sDad care of this website. "50sDad...helping hold America together since 1960!"

It was good to see that they referenced the geekiest car in the US today, the Honda Element. I have camped in mine for several weekends, and it worked well.

For a wagon that's not too old, you can't beat the Buick Roadmaster/Checvy Caprice (1990's)

When I got laid off I told the wife we should sell everything, buy a used school bus and hit the road. She didn’t buy it. I couldn’t get the gun safe through the door anyway.

I could envision tent camps on the Washington Mall with signs pleading to BO to help them as well as the same set up around BOs house in Illinois.

I’ll have to look into this :)

All was well for me until the construction industry crashed. Now with our savings and 401K gone I’m at the end of my rope.

I NEED a McCain victory.
