I've no doubt you saw something curious. I went back to my camera and the time of my photo was 4:48 p.m. yesterday. The photo doesnt' do it justice, but as I was on 495, approaching the 278 interchange, the clouds over NYC were pushing east, and there was a neat orange glow in the clearing behind them. Because traffic was creeping I was doing a little more skywatching than usual, and I just thought I'd mention that I too saw two curious lights, movin generally from North to South. Although I was able to clearly ID them as being a jet after a little while, initially they had a very unusual appearance because of the ambient light and atmosphere.
Trust me...having experienced and/or seen some VERY unusual things while a student at Gettysburg College, I'd be reluctant to second guess another person's observations. I'm just in the area on business, so you, no doubt, are far more familiar with the normal flight paths and appearance of aircraft in the area....
