The sign at a Citgo station in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin advertised for $3.49 a gallon, but pump was set for $0.349 per gallon. One motorist filled up her 1998 Ford Expedition for $8.85; normally it would cost over $100.00. About 30-40 motorists filled up for about 90 minutes before the error was discovered; many customers were also filling gas cans.

So out of 30-40 people, no one bothered to tell the gas station owner the pumps were set incorrectly? Nice.

That's nothing more than theft. It's like keeping the money when you give the clerk ten dollars and he gives you back change for a twenty. You may be able to get away with it, but you know it's wrong.

(Note that I'm using "you" in the general sense, and is not directed at you NRA1995.)

It’s sickening that for an hour and a half no one told the owner that people were stealing from him.

The owner didn’t mention it, the newspaper didn’t mention it.

Stunning.

I’m sure everybody in Wisconsin Rapids is a long way from starving or freezing.

Hugo Chavez got his full $3.00 per gallon for every gallon that was sold. The government got its full cut for every gallon that was sold. The one who is out the $3.15 per gallon for each of the thousands of gallons that were sold during the time in question is the small business owner who operates that gas station.

I would expect that most of the people taking advantage of the situation were using the pay at the pump option -- which might allow the owner recourse to hit the cards used for payment for the difference in price.

That's the America of Abby Hoffman. The America of Bill Ayers would have blown up the gas station weeks ago. The America of Barack Obama would file lawsuits to force even lower prices and to move people without cars to the front of the line.

When I was a Sr. (1967) in high school $1.00 would put a gallon of gas in my VW, a cola, a pack of Nabs, and I would walk out with change.

Yeah, sad but true. But I refuse to fuel up at CITCO just for the Venezuela connection.

Who says nobody told him? Maybe that’s how the problem was discovered. Of coruse the majority of the people didn’t, but that’s how it goes. Everybody needs to be responsible for themselves, his employees set the pump computer wrong and he lost a bunch of money.

So if gas was 10% the normal price, and it cost $8.85 to fill up, why does it normally cost over $100 to fill up? 10 x $8.85 = $88.50!
