Vanity, but if I do say so myself one very much worth reading...

Posted on 10/14/2008 10:17:21 AM PDT by republicanbred

This is an email I just sent out to about 50 people.

Hello All, I have been thinking about the dangers of the upcoming election, and wanted to share an experience I had over the summer that I guarantee few Americans shared. This summer we went to Europe to tour many of the WWII historical sites, and happen to be at the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach (Bloody Omaha), on June 26, 2008. For those who do not realize the significance of that date, it is the date on which the Supreme Court decided the Heller Case. Not familiar with Heller? That was the case in which the court decided by only one vote that we as Americans do in fact have the right to bear arms as individuals.

As France is six hours ahead of the US, we left to go to the American Cemetery that morning knowing that the decision would be made while we were spending the day at the cemetery. I cannot tell you how emotional that day was for us as a family and me personally. Seeing row after row of crosses and Star of David, and realizing that these soldiers fought and died for a country who could not fight for themselves against their government because they were unarmed was a powerful experience, to say the least. Knowing that depending on the decision by the SCOTUS, we as Americans could lose that right also made it all the more emotional. How was it possible that the soldiers who died on the shores of Normandy fought for something that we as Americans were close to giving up? How had we gotten to this point? In just a couple of generations had we completely forgotten what these men (and women) had died for? At the end of our day we returned to our chateau, which amazingly enough had at one point been taken over by the German High Command and by D-Day was being used as a makeshift hospital for Paratroopers (still has some blood stains saved for posterity) to check for the outcome of Heller.

I was so relieved when I read the outcome, however after a brief moment of elation I realized that the second amendment was upheld by only one vote. If those who died in Normandy had been told that one day in the not too distant future we Americans would be hanging on to our second amendment rights by one vote, they would not have believed it.

So here we are, weeks before the election making a decision on who to vote for. I have been told I am a 'one-issue voter" because I am adamantly pro-life (I won't even get started on that one!), but they are wrong. I am a many issue voter, and gun rights is one of those issues. Naive Americans believe we have no need to fear our government, but I guarantee you our Founding Fathers knew very well the need to fear the government. History before and since has shown us time and time again we need to fear our government, and to believe otherwise is not only foolish but can be deadly.

I'm not sure any of you reading this is considering voting for Obama or third party, but you may know someone who is. If for no other reason than our second amendment rights, I am asking you to read the information below and consider the damage that a McCain-Palin loss means to this country. To you. To your right to bear arms in defending yourselves and your family. Make no mistake about it, if you do not vote for John McCain you are choosing to take America down a path that we may never recover from.

And if that thought is not enough to make you reconsider, then jump on a plane, fly over to France and walk through the American Cemetery. Look over the cliff to "Bloody Omaha" where Americans were slaughtered to protect those who could not protect themselves from their own government. Then look at the rows of endless graves, and reflect on their sacrifice for your rights today. I am not willing to let their sacrifice be in vain, are you? Please feel free to forward this email as you feel appropriate.

Regards, Tracy

In Synopois, On the Second Amendment, Don't Believe Obama

During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for "sportsmen" or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don't listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

BTTT

Nice...and with footnotes...very nice

They will take the guns...and they are easy to find because they are all registered.

Then, they will label opposition remarks as “hate speach” and close down the opposition media

Then they will .... etc...and I think they will do as much of it as possible to create a permanent socalist government here...

vote McCain/Palin, it’s important.

During WWII, fearing a German invasion and having effectively disarmed the population, Great Britain was desperate for small arms. Their desperation was so great that they begged the US for firearms to arm the citizens if necessary. Hundreds of thousands of rifles and handguns were sent from the US to Great Britain, most from US armories, but many thousands were loaned by ordinary US citizens with little hope of ever seeing their firearms again.

Also, the Japanese flat out rejected an invasion of the US mainland because they knew that the US citizen was probably the most heavily armed citizen in the world.

Thank you for those facts, which I was not aware of. I will gather this information along with some of the other I am receiving and send a follow-up email to those I sent the original too. This is too important to quit talking about!

Stalin (1951?) asked the KGB whether they felt that the USSR could control American citizens if the USSR was to attack and win in a war.

The KGB said no, too many guns.

Stalin dropped the subject.
