About 2008...
No, Hunter has “it”. What he dosen’t have yet, is the sissies in the GOP on his side.
You callin’ me a sissy, boy?
“Its impossible to win when the media and the GOP sideline you!”
I agree that many factors come into play and having the MSM on your side obviously helps. However, ultimately, if a candidate catches fire the MSM covers that candidate even if it is biased coverage. Word gets out.
The skill set for winning political office at the national level includes being articulate and likable. Being right on the issues is important, but it is only part of the whole picture.
Conservative candidates who did not do well in Iowa or New Hampshire could have focused on other primaries. If their message had been compelling enough to generate excitement they could have surged. They did not.
We all have in mind a line in the sand that divides conservative from non-conservative. That line varies from person to person. However, we must draw the line in a place that will allow the inclusion of conservatives who can win and not exclude those with the skill set to do so.
Implicit in the choice between Palin and Hunter is the idea that the most conservative should be the go-to candidate. If that is in fact the point then I disagree with it.
I think the goal is to find the acceptably conservative candidate with the best chance of winning.
Otherwise, ideologically perfect candidates lose to non-conservatives and we end up where we are now.
Regardless of which favorite conservative candidate anyone here wishes had won, the fact remains they did not close the deal in the primaries. Apparently they did not close the deal with backers and contributors before the primaries began to enable them to raise the funds necessary to compete effectively either.
Blaming the media and the GOP (as if a smoke-filled room made the decision) can only go so far. The candidates who lost need to look at themselves as well.
I will say that I think there was another factor which hurt conservatives. It has been the presence in the national consciousness of W as a supposed conservative who has made some bad decisions that tainted the terms “Republican” and “conservative” in the minds of the voters. That has gone a long way toward Obama getting the advantage he currently has. But that is for another day.
In any event circumstances are as they are and candidates either figure out a way to survive despite that or their political hopes perish. It is not easy but it is that straightforward.
Are you one of the sissies in the GOP? If so, yes.
Sarah Palin is the ultimate conservative candidate because she fights corruption instead of overlooking it.
Aren’t you due to post another whining vanity about how the election is over, sissy?
Okay. Thompson is a conservative leaning Bakerite- Not Conservative.
Barr and Baldwin qualify in Libertarian circles, financial circles, Baldwin in Social conservative circles, but neither will qualify with Defense and Foreign Policy conservatives. -Not Conservative.
That leaves you with Hunter, Tancredo, and Keyes, all three fine Reagan (3 pillar) Conservatives. All three eminently qualified.
My personal pick still would have to go to Hunter all around, because of his vastly greater experience wrt military matters (thus able to serve DEFCONS better than the other two). If anyone bears Reagan's torch, it is he.
I believe I posted Palin/Hunter on Pissant’s vanity.
Palin is a populist with very wide appeal. Duncan Hunter is 100% conservative.
WHy don’t you go wear your “global Warming is Real” and your “Duncan Who” buttons to the next RINO party. Of course, they may clash with your sundress and birkenstocks.
Hunter should try running for an executive position so he can get some experience in the role.
Because I said he doesn’t have “it” doesn’t mean I don’t like him, it means I don’t think he has “it”, get it?
You’re quite the pissy little sister lately aren’t you?
Calling me a RINO is a straw man arguement, I started posting Global Warming Warning posts as soon as the 2006 election was over, I knew we would be bombarded with it.
I’ve never worn a sundress and I’m not sure what birkenstocks are, I’m all man. You are all quitter and whiner.
Go ahead post another vanity on how the election is over, you obviously crave the attention.
Yeah sure. I can think of so many executives that are ready to “lead” and make wise decisions.
Rudy - wouldn’t understand the 2nd Amendment if it shot him in the ass.
Arnold. Ruined the GOP chances for a CA resurgence by being a RINO extradinaire.
Bush. Just pushed the worst socialist boondoggle in many a year down America’s throat.
Clinton. Disgraced the office of the presidency.
GHWB. Couldn’t quite figure out what conservatism meant.
Jimmuh. The worst President EVER
You see a pattern here? Reeagan was the exception to the rule.
It is you craving my attention, sally. I’ll ignore your sissy posts from now on.
BTW, I said MCCAIN surrendered, not me. I’m going to help pancake Obama’s career, not just for Potus, but in the Senate.
You can thank me later.
You might not like Rudy and I don’t agree with him on a lot of things but this native New Yorker who lived about a quarter mile from Ground Zero on 9/11 saw a lot of leadership from him. I like Hunter but he should try being responsible for a budget which he hasn’t. BTW - Hunter’s my Congressman and I’ve voted for him.
Hunter is the ultimate conservative. Palin is the ultimate candidate. Regardless of who would have the pres/vp slot, it would be the ultimate ticket.
Rudy has more baggage than a Samsonite salesman, and a piss poor understanding of the constitution. Fine mayor, but he’d be a horrid POTUS.
Your thread about McCain surrendering really went a long way to pancaking Obama’s career.
All of my posts have chest hair.
Your crying, sissy, girlyman post about McCain surrendering was possibly the most metrosexual whining vanity in the history of Free Republic. Should I “thank” you now for that?
Chest hair? Sounds more like a bikini wax or some poofer fashion critic at the NY TImes.
Quote me ACCURATELY.
I said Hunter just doesn’t have “it”.
That is what sent you into your metrosexual frenzy. A simple statement of fact that he lacks that certain something that brings VOTES.
Pissant, you sure are.
