In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
tautology, [taw-tol-uh-jee], noun
1. needless repetition of an idea, esp. in words other than those of the immediate context, without imparting additional force or clearness, as in widow woman.
2. an instance of such repetition.
3. Logic. a. a compound propositional form all of whose instances are true, as A or not A.
b. an instance of such a form, as This candidate will win or will not win.
Example sentence:
Taranto's Best of the Web always includes News of the Tautological.
Etymology:
Origin: 1579, from L.L. tautologia "representation of the same thing" (c.350), from Gk. tautologia, from tautologos "repeating what has been said," from tauto "the same" + -logos "saying," related to legein "to say".
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
someone on the thread seemed to be saying that it would decrease confidence in AIG to have the bigwigs meeting in Motel6’s. Well THAT’S when you do the PR and have a press release saying since we are alive thanks to the taxpayers dime we will forthwith economize in all of our ventures. do people really buy insurance, even on large corporate scale, only from ostentatiously successful salesmen?
a perect example of tautology: Sean Hannity.
i agree it’s necessary to repeat the warnings of Obama, but not every 3 minutes with every caller.
the weather is irking the crap out of me! i was COLD in my ofc yesterday and so today i wore a cashmere sweater over a long sleeved tee bc it looked kind of overcast this AM. Well dang if it isn’t going to be 77 and SUNNY today, so i am going to be sweating in the dang sweater!
That was cute, wasn’t it?
yes it was!
So scuzzy democrat shyster would be a double tautology, or would that be a triple?
You are a great American.
Ugly suckers, but they put up a good fight and are really tasty.
Acorn, Voter Fraud, a tautology
Go sign up the dead, no apology
And what really is nice
All the live ones vote twice
In Novemeber, I’ll need cardiology
No ribbon? ;^)
LOVE IT!!!!!
I can even figure out which section of Endicott Camile Paglia came from......the Italians were on the hills....Interesting she lived there.
xshub had told me awhile ago that she was from that ONE CAUTION LIGHT TOWN that we pass through going up to the inlaws. and she admits it in this piece.
Endicott used to be such a great little community.
Even now, the best it has to offer is because of that Italian community.
I like to occasionally go to an italian mass at St. Anthony’s.
Too bad they are dealing with such a bad pollution problem.
A for you and, may I add, you’re a great American.
As a member of the health care profession, I couldn’t agree with you more. A+
Trifecta. A for you. Or should I say AAA, who handled my towing this morning, granted they showed up 15 minutes late after telling me it would take an hour. It’s been a long day and it’s only started.
A+ for you. With eyes that big, you’d think they could avoid a hook.
-the failure of IBM has been their downfall. Between IBM leaving and Endicott Johnson going down....no jobs.
