Another sobering start to an exceedingly sobering week - but one which points to the need for a political leader who is steady in the face of crisis, mature in judgment and able to reach across the aisle to break the gridlock that has for too long gripped Washington.
That man is Sen. John McCain and at this critical moment in history, this paper is pleased to endorse his candidacy for president of the United States.
McCain won a lot of hearts and minds around here in 2000, and we cant help but wonder how history might have been different had he won his partys nomination and the White House back then.
But there is no going back. There is only the future and it is impossible to envision the future of this great nation being put in the hands of an articulate but inexperienced first-term senator from Illinois.
Being commander in chief isnt the place for on-the-job training; its a job for someone who has already proven his leadership skills - in battle, as a prisoner of war and during more than two decades on the floor of the Senate.
John McCains heroic resume isnt just about his sacrifice and his experience; its about what he learned from those experiences. And on that issue his own words from Faith of My Fathers are telling:
In Vietnam I had come to understand how brief a moment a life is. That discovery did not, however, make me overly fearful of times brisk passing. For I had also learned that you can fill the moment with purpose and experiences that will make your life greater than the sum of its days. I have learned to acknowledge my failings and to recognize opportunities for redemption.

Boston Herald? As in Boston, Massachusetts?
...What?
The Bush administration already has all of the tools it needs to correct the crisis on its own. The Treasury has a trillion dollars available already to buy up bad paper, and the SEC has the power to fix the market regulations freezing liquidity.
This is McCains opportunity.
He called for Cox to be fired and was criticized for it.
But I think he was right, actually.
And he can take it further.
He needs to come out and accuse the Bush administration of fear mongering, declare the bailout a scam and the crisis as manufactured.
It would instantly make him a hero to both conservatives and liberals alike, and end this election.
While the herald wouldnt be considered a bastion of conservatism. For the most part they are much better than the Globe which gives the times and wapo a significant run for their money when it comes to left wing wackoism
Yes, the BOSTON HERALD! Sorry, I could not fit the word Boston in title :(
This is series!
My family is full of wishy washy independents. They all feel that Obama is too untested for the times we live in. For all of the MSM bunk I’ve read about economic issues being Obama’s strength it doesn’t seem to be translating to everyday Americans. (Especially those over 40).
Where’s that flying pigs pic?
Maybe Obama is starting to scare the adults
Now if only the Boston Globe would follow suit. Hey I can dream, can’t I?
you nailed it.
