It is my belief that Republicans in the House have committed a major blunder by voting against today's bailout plan. They have given the Democrats a very large club to batter them with over the next six weeks before the election as the stock market crashes and the economy goes into a tailspin. It is my fear that this will lead to a Democrat landslide in the House and Senate and may even cost John McCain the presidency as Democrats and their big media cohorts blame the Republicans for the crisis.
Republican Representatives should have heeded the words of their leadership under President George Bush and Senator John McCain instead of caving to pressure from their constituents on a subject they do not fully comprehend.Today is a perfect example why the Founders of this country instituted a representative democracy instead of a direct democracy.
The failure of Congress to pass this emergency plan will also be used by the Democrats to paint a picture of Senator McCain and the President as men who are incapable of providing the leadership required to pass even the most important of legislation.
There may not be any way to save the skin of Republicans in the House who are up for reelection, but if we act now and urge our Congressman to support comprehensive economic reform, we may be able to insure the election of John McCain. Anything less, and we could very well be witnessing an Obama presidency, something our country may never recover from.
God, save our country.
McCain may win. McCain may lose. That will be decided later.
The big lesson sinking in on Wall Street and in D.C. is that there is a certain percentage of free men and women in this country who are immune to extortion.
There are an AMAZING number of chicken little vanities these past few days. I daresay, I just cannot keep up with them!
Why the bail failed: Nancy Pelosi’s 95 Feces
if bamey wins, this site might be made illegal.....
suffer the fools....
As far as the market crashing, the more hysteria that comes out of WA, the more banks and investment firms will fail.
Robert: Your post is prescient!
OPPOSITION TO BAILOUT PLAN FALLS DRAMATICALLY
Monday, September 29, 2008
As Congress prepares to vote on a proposed economic rescue plan, opposition to the measure has declined significantly. A Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted Sunday found that 33% of Likely Voters now favor the plan while 32% are opposed and 35% are not sure.
For proponents of the legislation, thats a significant improvement. On Friday, just 24% of voters had supported the plan while 50% were opposed. http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/business/general_business/opposition_to_bailout_plan_falls_dramatically
GALLUPS POLLING ON THIS SUBJECT IS VIRTUALLY IDENTICAL TO RASMUSSENS . . . ANOTHER DAY OR TWO OF ECONOMIC CARNAGE (WITH NO ACTION FROM CONGRESS) AND THESE NUMBERS WILL BECOME VERY UGLY VERY FAST FOR REPUBLICANS.
Republicans were totally right to oppose as they did. Last I heard was that 99-1 (Americans) were opposed to this—this is actually letters, emails and phone calls from the actual constituents not stupid poll #’s.
The Dem plan was to let everyone that is either a committee chair or has a challenger in their district vote nay so that they could beat the Republicans with this bill with little risk of losing seats over it.
That was my point. No matter who’s fault it is the Dems and the media will focus the public’s anger on Republicans.
God save us from any more of these useless, hand-wringing vanities.
Very few politicians, including Republicans, vote on principle. They vote for or against something solely on the basis of getting re-elected. They put their finger in the air, judge the way the wind is blowing, and vote, leadership be damned.
Finally couldn’t take any more vanities without saying something. When you look at the front page and you see vanity after vanity, it is irritating.
Glad I am not the only one!
Thank you. I was afraid the response to my post would be very negative, but it is good to see a few posters such as yourself are able to see the bigger picture in relation to the election.
While Pelosi and her ‘RATS are clubbing the Republicans, what are they going to do with the 95 DemocRATS who also voted “No?” Make them sit on whoopi cushions?
I just watched Newt on Greta VanSusteren. WHOA!!!!! The New York Times has an article from yesterday they were talking about and it is something which needs to be checked into about Paulson and a conflict of interest being the only private sector firm sitting in a NY Federal Reserve meeting regarding bailing out of AIG. Newt said GS has a 20 billion dollar exposure. She asked why nobody is talking about this. He said he feels Bush is embarrassed because he is working for him and the Dems want to use him to get money for them.
My retirement accounts dropped by nearly ten percent today. IN ONE DAY! I don’t have the patience to argue the ins and outs of this tonight, but there is panic and things are likely to get worse. The Democrats have been talking down the economy and people are falling for it. John McCain recognized that this downturn is working to Obama’s advantage.
“more like 60 percent opposed, but true.” Republican staffers were saying the email/phone calls received from the public averaged 80 against to every one in support.
yes, but when you look at the numbers of people that are opposed to this bill as it is written, the republicans are behind the voters on this one.
I agree! Too many trolls, etc. around here and now posting vanities.
