It is my belief that Republicans in the House have committed a major blunder by voting against today's bailout plan. They have given the Democrats a very large club to batter them with over the next six weeks before the election as the stock market crashes and the economy goes into a tailspin. It is my fear that this will lead to a Democrat landslide in the House and Senate and may even cost John McCain the presidency as Democrats and their big media cohorts blame the Republicans for the crisis.
Republican Representatives should have heeded the words of their leadership under President George Bush and Senator John McCain instead of caving to pressure from their constituents on a subject they do not fully comprehend.Today is a perfect example why the Founders of this country instituted a representative democracy instead of a direct democracy.
The failure of Congress to pass this emergency plan will also be used by the Democrats to paint a picture of Senator McCain and the President as men who are incapable of providing the leadership required to pass even the most important of legislation.
There may not be any way to save the skin of Republicans in the House who are up for reelection, but if we act now and urge our Congressman to support comprehensive economic reform, we may be able to insure the election of John McCain. Anything less, and we could very well be witnessing an Obama presidency, something our country may never recover from.
God, save our country.
I think the opposite. I think Rebpublicans, led by McCain, should vocally and demonstrably distance themselves from Bush and Paulson, propose a plan with no bail out, just insurance for mortgage loans, changes to Sarbanes Oxley, elimination of capital gains and increasing FDIC to $500,000. If they do this, and do it now, they could be heroes and McCain can use it as a wedge issue on the economy.
Just remember, to a McCainiac, adhering to your principles and standing strong for freedom and for the Constitution (against Socialist takeover attempts like today's bailout bill) is considered "extremist" and "purist."
It makes one wonder whether the rabid McCainiacs (GOP operatives) even have souls to keep.
I think we do need a vanity rule. 1. Stop promoting personal sites while posting a thread as a vanity.. 2. No vanity for newbs for at least 4 months of continous posting. 3 No vanity for people who goes missing for at least 4 months..
Bush's negative approval is only exceeded by that of congress. How is it effective for McCain to get right in bed with the corrupt socialists who got us into this. McCain should have opposed the bill and offered a market based alternative that maintains accountability for irresponsible lenders AND BORROWERS. He still has time, but not much.

Here is a link referencing the article in the NY Times about Paulson that Newt and Greta VanSusteren were talking about tonight. She asked if there is a conflict of interest with him. Then Newt said he was shocked over the article he saw in the NY Times yesterday.
What some here are not getting or are refusing to understand is that though there is significant resistance to the bailout now, the next six weeks will see a seachange in voter opinion in favor of the bailout. Republicans will receive the blame for not passing the bill, and the Dems will reap the benefits of voter anger.
Do you really want Congress giving the Sec Treas the power to bail out foreign banks, or to purchase any type of financial instrument at any price?
Those 2 scenarios were only part of that bill. The Democrats and Republicans who stood strong against that nightmare of a bill are heroes.
Americans like bailouts for Wall Street like they like amnesty for illegals: they want neither!
Actually, what will happen is that the bill will be re-written, the things negotiated out will be put back in and then many of the Dems that voted no will change their votes. In the mean time every aspect of this whole mess will be blamed on Bush and the Republicans, and, to make it worse, the Dems will claim they stood up for the little guy by forcing this “corporate welfare” to include funding for programs they will claim benefit average Americans.
In other words, the bill most of us hate will be replaced by the bill we despised, and we’ll STILL end up looking like the bad guys who acted irresponsibly and gave away Hundreds of Billions to corporate fat cats.
Republicans had a nice run with Congress (1995-2007) and the White House (2001-2009). People are suffering from GOP fatigue. It will be time for us to wander the desert for sometime. However, we will comback someday.
Just look at the political landscape in other nations. In Canada, the liberal party ruled from the early 90’s to present. Next month, the conservative party is poised to socre big. And in Britain, Labour ruled from the late 90’s to present. The Tories are poised to gain power in 2009.
I have no doubt the GOP will bounce back in the future. The question is will it be 4 years or 16 years?
The republicans need to lay this at the feet of the democrats.Its their baby.With the number of people calling their congressmen to raise hell about this sell out tells me the republicans and the democrats who voted against this bill will be alright.Mcnutts needs to get out there and bury the community organizer under the freddie,fannie debacle and never let up.

Most Americans still believe the Republicans are the majority in Congress . . . And they certainly know by now (our MSM at work) that a majority of Republicans voted against this rescue bill and by doing so caused the stock market to plummet by 800 points — and futures (around the world) are down even further as I type this response . . . It doesn’t take a genius to figure out where this is going.
Do you really want an Obama presidency? The Republicans are now almost assured of a rout in the House and probably the Senate.
We need a purge of the McCainistas who got us President Obama.
Is it possible that Pelosi’s speech was deliberately antagonistic, and intended to dissuade Republicans from voting for the bill? I wondered about that; but I tend to think that Pelosi is too stupid to be that sneaky.
