McCain has 48 hours to Fix his Campaign
9-29-2008 | brianbaldwin

McCain has about 48 hours to fix his campaign. This is his last chance, and he has to do this now.

Everyone knows what he needs to do – he needs to come out and say that he is against the plan as it was proposed, that the American people were against it and for good reason, that he is with the American people on this one.

He needs to say there is a better plan, and that this wasn’t the bill and he is glad that the plan as proposed went down because it lacks accountability, it lacks the reform needed.

And that he is ready to move forward with real solutions which Americans will support, and this wasn’t it. And now he is ready to again go to Washington with the message that the American people desire, and he is ready to assist with real reform.

He needs to say this, and he has only about 48 hours to do so.

Once he says this, then that will free up Palin to go on the attack during the Thursday debate. She can then argue on behalf, and with, the American people, that this isn’t what the American people wanted, that this wasn’t the answer, and now it is time to seek real reform and that is what McCain-Palin are about, real reform for the American people.

The message is simple, and it will win the election for McCain. And not only is the message simple, but it is the correct message, the real message Americans want.

He has 48 hours to do this. This is literally his last chance because the old media will lie about what has just happened, and if he doesn’t get this message out, if he is not on board with this, well the media certainly will do him no favors, and he will not only become caught up in a web of old media deceit, he will have lost his entire message of reform.

Now he needs to show the American people, that his ticket is the ticket of reform, and that the Republican Party is the Party of Reform.

I support John McCain, because I now understand how important reform is.

John McCain and Sarah Palin are the reform candidates. Reform is real change. America will understand that. This is his opportunity. And his last chance. The election is now his to win or lose

He’s kinda tied his hands though, by implicitly stating he supports the bill during Friday’s debate.

That isn't exactly what he said. Thought he said he needed to study it further before making a decision.

Now if they just rolled out in a campaign car that said "bite me" I would be happy.

It’s been a nice chat. That was what this posting was - in the “chit/chat” section.

I am now going to get back on the phone, emails, et all, and express my thanks to the Republicans who voted down this bill, and hope that there are enough of us to perhaps get to McCain-Palin as well.

In fact, I know there are.

....but it may not be true. No point in pulling a Bush 41 before McCain gets elected. One person's bailout is another's rescue.

Obama is up to his eyeballs involved in the cause of Fannie Mae crimes. How the hell is this being glossed over, even by McCain? It makes me sick.

I’m amazed that so many here can’t see the 90 dems voting against this...it’s political stunt to make the Republicans look like the bad guys. pelosi’s top dems voted against it....get a clue all.

It’s damned near impossible to win a national election when the media is in the tank for your opponent.
***I was saying that all along about whomever would be the republican nominee, and that he would need a strategy that didn’t depend upon the MSM. When McCain chose Palin as his VP, he got a taste of that strategy, but it was just luck. He didn’t do it out of a sense of a strategic move, hoping to stir the media into a frenzy such that they hand him the election by jumping the shark. He honestly considered the media to be his friends.

What can I say other than I told ya so? He can still win this campaign if he wants to. All he has to do is hold 2 press conferences with Palin, and open up on Obama and tell the Media that they’ve vetted Palin, all they need to do is vet Obama. Let’s start with his birth certficate, his cocaine use, his illegal tactics in Missouri according to the Governor there, his college years, his connection to Rezko/Ayers/terrorists/whomever, and his babykilling voting record. Then we’ll cover more ground in the next press conference.

I think they rolled the Bite Me car out in the House today. We have just begun to fight.
My dad is going to kill me! Hey Nancy, Would you girls like to dance?

Pray for W, Gov Palin and Our Troops

Pretty much. I do not believe McCain will accuse Dems of the Truth---they caused this and now want to write the bailout and be in charge. He needs to spank them. If he doesn't, and continues "we don't need to point the finger of blame at this time", he loses a great oportunity. The "folks" need to know what has and is happening.

I really do think that McCain's age and time in the Senate play against him in THIS way---he cannot get his head around the fact that the Dem. party REALLY harbors Marxists who want to take this country where it has never been before, and that they have made read inroads--precisely because people of mid to very conservative principles cannot actually believe an elected Rep or Senator could actually be Marxist. George Bush cannot believe it either..

While I understand your criticism, Hannity may well be the only guy on the TV side who will play the thing on the air. I don’t watch everything of course, but I suspect it won’t be on any other station.

I think that American Research Group site is listing the EV count from 2004. It is a calculator that you can play around with and change the states to see how it impacts the election.

I agree with Brian_Baldwin. McCain can’t say he was against a vill he was trying to put together. What he can say, and should is that:
1. He understands the anger of the American people, and they are right to be angry.
2. Any new bill, if there’s going to be another one, absolutely has to address the root causes of this problem. Fixing the problem without fixing the cause just gets you the problem again later.
3. Accordingly, in addition to taxpayer protections etc going forward:
A. The CRA needs to be eliminated or drastically altered. The snowball began here. The government needs to get out of the business of encouraging risky loans.
B. Freddie and Fannie should be cleaned up and privatized. There were too many sweetheart deals and govenment control of thses has clearly failed.
C. There need to be across the board hearings and investigations on this early next year. ANYONE, R, D, Washington or Wall Street, who should be in jail should be in jail.

These would be correct, commonsense measures that would resonate with most people, and help get him out in front of this.

I don’t know if he has 48 hours, but he sure doesn’t have long.

I agree.

Coming out against the bill would boost his campaign. But we must remember who John McCain is!!
He has won over some of the Democrats for being " his own person" and crossing the isle... for acting on his own conscience.
Apparently he FEELS this bill is good for the country.
I DO NOT!!!!!
In standing for what he believes , he may be setting himself up to lose, sadly! Then we lose Sarah!!!!

They don’t even have to do ads. They just need to hold one or two press conferences.

Palin comes on and says, “Well, ladies & gents of the press, you’ve been so diligent about vetting me that it’s time to vet Obama. You have dug up my social security number, my email address as governor, my daughter’s pregnancy, yada yada yada... Now let’s see you folks dig up the right information on Obama’s birth certificate and why he hasn’t produced it even though there’s a lawsuit against him. And his relationship with Ayers, his admitted cocaine use, his dual citizenship with Kenya that should disqualify him from the presidency, his illegal tactics that the Governor of Missouri has officially complained about, and how he paid for his college. That’s just to start. We’ll have another press conference next Tuesday.”
