(Vanity) What was the most memorable part of the debate for you?
FNC | 9/25/2008 | DGHoodini

I've been listening to the talking heads, all saying what they thought were going to be the take away comments from the debate, but not one mentioned the two that caught my attention the most.

The first one, was Obama agreeing matter of factly, that we sould be drilling our own oil, even though he's still spouting that old and disproved line that the US only has 3% of the worlds oil supply...

But what really made my eyebrows go up, was when Obama stated as a given, that we are going to have to build a lot more nuclear plants!!!

(snicker) Pelosi and the rest of the ecoTard luddites are going to be waiting for him with pitchforks and torches for that line. They want us all living like Baracks brother..those are the kinds of familial expectations the Dims have for us in the US.

Mud huts and a dollar a week, for us all...except for them...

The most memorable part for me is how McCain neglected to mention how 0bama referred to Iran as being a small country that isn’t a threat to us... or something to that effect. He said it earlier this year. McCain could have slammed him with that one.

FDR bying houses during the Great Depression.

Wants timetable to withdraw from Iraq but no timetable for Afghanistan.

Overspending on Iraq, but apparently spending on Afghanistan is okay.

John? It's Senator McCain you worthless turd.

No new taxes? What about the Bush tax cuts set to expire.

“What was the most memorable part of the debate for you?”

When I heard a CRASH upstairs - My 6-year old taking advantage of my absence to swipe fresh baked cookies cooling on a glass plate, dropping the whole plate to the floor cookies and all. I missed 10 min of the debate because of that. Thankfully that was during the part when McCain was not doing good.

By the way, picking out a few dog hairs, the cookies were still great to eat during the debate.

McCain saying lovely things about his sick buddy Ted Kennedy before getting to the bailout situation and saying nothing substantive about it, about true capitalism, or the duplicity of the Democrats in attempting to solve the problem.

It is typically disingenuous for Obama to claim he supports building more nuclear plants when in fact, he opposes the Yucca storage facility which is vitally necessary before any significant expansion of US nuclear power plants can occur.

In short, if Obama is elected president, expect more jawboning but no nuclear expansion.

Oh, and I loved the comment about how Obambi is concerned that children around the world don’t like our country.

My favorite moment of the debate was when McCain turned to Obama and said, “Kiss my ass, you piece of crap. Your party is the reason for Fannie/Freddie debaucle, and you GD liar.” That is what I heard him say.

No memborable one-liners (well, maybe McCain’s nice little jab about the presidential seal...) but two things I take away from it.

Anyone watching with an open mind could not help notice the total familiarity McCain has with all of the foreign policy issues — Russia/Georgia, Korea, Iran, Afghanistan. He knows this stuff, he’s comfortable in it, he talks about it in a way that is totally PERSONAL. Obama can’t speak about these issues except from a theoretic or academic viewpoint and it shows. His constant use of by-the-book ways to handle things (”Number 1, we do A. Number 2, we go to B. Number 3, then we do C).

The other thing that struck me was the petulance Obama showed in interrupting, smirking, making comments under his breath, etc. All things to be expected from a Dem but still. It went beyond just the natural reaction you might have to someone that you disagree with. It was very pointed and deliberate, as was his overuse of “John” vs. “Sen. McCain.” Again, anyone not already decided, I hope saw those things as irritatingly rude.

I was reminded of this at NRO, and it came back to me. I was letting my 9-year-old daughter listen (she’s very interested) and it was upsetting to let her hear when BO said children in other countries didn’t look up to the US.

Which is simply not true. I know just in our weekly circles many youngsters from other countries that are happy to be here and that we befriend and love.

Amy Holmes at the “Corner” said her Mom said “Believe in the US before you want to be President.”

My roommate Amy looking at me and saying “Isn’t that Obama guy weird?”

At least he kept his ‘ah, um’s’ to a minimum ....

The most memorable thing to me was that neither candidate screwed up. McCain clearly demonstrated a greater grasp of foreign policy/national security issues, but Obama did OK at saying judgment is more important than experience.

I doubt this debate would change many minds.

The townhall style debate and the sit down debate will probably be more interesting, esp. given that those formats, esp. the townhall should be more favorable to McCain.
