The Coming Second Civil War
quesney | quesney

Posted on 09/26/2008 1:08:20 PM PDT by quesney

Folks, A profound schism in American society has been exposed and laid bare over the following years — since 9/11, through the events of Iraq to the monstrously socialist bailout of the present day.

John Edwards was right. There are Two Americas, and it is my fear that they fundamentally incompatible and irreconcilable.

We are headed for a conflict, decades in the making, approaching the intensity, scope and chaos of The Civil War.

I don't know what shape it will take or exactly when it will happen. I only know for certain it is coming and it will be messy. I only know for certain that I have little or nothing in common with "fellow Americans" such as Obama, Pelosi and a good chunk of the liberal "opposition", which I increasingly consider nothing more than a euphemism for people I consider aliens, at best.

The space for civilized debate is fast disappearing, when dealing with an "opposition" repeatedly ready to lie, cheat, distort, steal and compromise our national security, sovereignty and founding principles and repeatedly ready to abandon basic manners, civility, reality and logic, all of which are the fundamental basis for civilized debate. What do you call an "opposition" like that. Is it a threat that can be "deabted" with no longer?

I pray the coming conflict and confrontation is not violent, but it will be no less profound and no less significant than the first Civil War.

The very basic issue to be decided is just what is the United States of America, whether the Constitution no more than a piece of paper signifying nothing but pretense and old memories and whether there are still those prepared to fight for it.

Maybe principled leadership will arise that can prevent it. But I think things are rapidly developing beyond the capacity of any one figure -- however Reagenesque or Churchillian -- to stop what I fear is coming.

Weimar America.>>>>>>>>>>>>>> We need a real leader if this rural/urban civil war developes. One of the same caliber as George Washington.I have been looking for him, or will it be a her ( Palin?).

No. There will be seperate leadership on differing fronts, including military and political.

Palin may well fill in a future political leadership role, but I don't think she'll be advanced in a military one. A couple of possibilities do come to mind who might blur the distinctions.

Read Robert A. Heinlein's Starship Troopers [ca. 1959] for the reasons whi the distinction is important- just as Marine junior officers are required to do.

So this “bailout” would be $700B and would come back 2-fold back to the Treasury. Where was 1/2 the outrage when a $350B farm bill was sent sailing through??? And none of that is coming back to the Treasury.

Wait until there are no resources to prop up the Social Security pyramid scheme, and the inflation that will likely result from attempts to bail that little problem out.

The snake is about to try to swallow something a LOT bigger than it can easily digest.

Either McCain will be elected with a Democrat Congress, or Obama and the Democrats will get in this year and lose big in 2010.

If there are elections held in 2010.

It’s much more likely to be civil unrest.

That would be like the British Civil War of the 17th century and the Collapse of the Roman Republic during the period 150 BC - 50 B.C.

The Peruvian Civil War of the XIX Century would seem a more likely parallel:

Following the death of President Agustin Gamarra (1785-1841) at Ingavi in the Peruvian-Bolivian War of 1841, Peru became torn by civil war inm 1842. In early 1843, Manuel Ignacio Vivanco (fl. 1840s), calling himself "The Regenerator," seized power and ruled the country as a dictator with the support of the army; he ignored the 1839 constitution, failed to convene the Peruvian congress, and punished disloyalty with the firing squad. Beginning in 1844, opposition to Vivanco entered in southern Peru, where Ramon Castilla (1797?-1867) and others led armies in support of the former constitution. Constitutionalist troops seized control of Peru's capital, Lima, while Vivanco was absent. At the Battle of Carmen Alto on July 22, 1844, constitutionalist armies under the direction of Castilla won against Vivanco's forces, compelling Vivanco to flee into exile. Factional strife continued until Castilla was elected president in 1845 and brought some order to Peru.

Oh no ... it just can't ever happen HERE!!! (Finnish Citizen 1913)

In 1913 there were no Finnish citizens. Finland was still a Dutchy of the Czarist Russian Empire.

Well....there's more to that story....

Norway declared independence from Sweden in 1905, after 91 years of union [the US had been together only 84 years when the CSA states/Dixie seceeded]. Finland having been ceded to Russia by Sweden in 1809 after four centuries of Finnish-Swedish union, Finns viewed the events of Norway's independence with great interest.

On 17 June 1904, Russian Governor-General Nikolai Ivanovich Bobrikov was shot to death by Finnish Nationalist [and community organizer!] Eugen Schauman in the Helsinki Council of State [Senate]Building. Schaumann shot Bobrikov three times, using explosive-loaded bullets [probably mercury fulminate] from a M1900 7,65mm Browning pistol and then shot himself twice, sparing himself interrogation by Russian Okhrana secret police torture. Schauman died instantly and Bobrikov died later that night in the hospital.

Schauman is sometimes said to have been *the first Finnish citizen* and was voted #34 in a recent poll by Suuret suomalaiset television of most-admired Finnish historical figures, though not by Finland's many Russia-lovers and collectivists. In the place of the assassination in the hallway of the Council of State there is a memorial plaque that states Se Pro Patria Dedit (given himself for his country) Schauman, Lennart Hohenthal, and others of the Finnish *Activisti* Finns who worked to release Finland from the Imperium of Russia can thereby be considered true Finnish citizens, and patriots. They were certainly not good Russian citizens in any sense of the term- though they certainly knew that indeed, it could happen there, because it had.

I know there is a CWII ping list, but I can’t remember who has it.

Myself, Travis McGee, and Jack Black. FReepmail any or all of us should you want on the list, or check the FR search term cwii

This has been talked about on Free Republic for over a year off and on.

The CWII *pilgrims list* postings date back to 2003. There were a few that summer, I believe, that weren't indexed.

If people think there will be a civil war it’s only because they want it to be so. Get a clue.

Of course! Why, all that money being spent by the Department of Defense getting the 3rd Infantry's First Brigade ready for such events is just a shameful waste of important resources that could feen our millions of new Mexican and OTM immigrants and fund ACORN voter registratrion drives of them.

They're headquartered at NORTHCOM at Peterson AFB, Colorado. You can contact them here, and I hope you'll let us know how you've straightened them out.

So which States are going to start it? Any entity smaller would be consitered terrorism.

Depends on what sets it off. But Montana came pretty close a couple of months back, and there are at least a couple of other similar possibilities.

It’s vanities such as this that make FR look like a kook-fest.

How long would this vanity post have lasted in the news forum 10 years ago?

About as long as one that suggested that some twenty members of the Religion of Peace would hijack airliners and crash them into the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon.

Have you ever HEARD such tinfoil nutter mumblings! I mean, sure, it'd make a great Tom Clancy novel, but we all nknow that in the real world, those kinds of things just don't happen.

I'm a little worried myself. I own some firearms, but I don't have a really good 'crap hits the fan gun'. I've got a Remington 710 bolt action I use for hunting and target practice, but it's not really well suited as an emergency rifle.

Good start. Now, take the next step. $495 will get you in the door.

There will be no "oh sh*t" event. There will be no "final straw" in which the masses rise up.

Tempers are high enough lately that this would not be a real good time for another political assassination to occur. Even a campaign-travel plane accident crash would be likely to be viewed as an elimination by many.

Some people..and it’s always been that way. The only difference is how much legitimacy is handed them.

Well, at least it brings the tinfoilers on FR out of the dark...

And the Quitters and Quislings, too!

Battles were at Ruby Ridge & Branch Davidian Ranch in Waco TX. Remember Gordon Kahl? How about Oklahoma City Bombing? I’m sure you can come up with more if you think about it.

Indeed. Several come to mind, including at least Granby, , and Alma, Colorado, and Sacramento California. Oh, and did I mention Sacramento, California?

It’s much more likely to be civil unrest. ... . Maybe closer to that schlockey Kevin Costner movie, “The Postman”, but without the post-apocalyptic overtones.

See if any of this sounds at all familiar....

The power struggle between the ... Democrats and the conservatives culminated in July ... in the passing of the Senate bill that eventually became the "Power Act", which incorporated a plan by the Democrats to substantially increase the power of Congress, in which they had a majority; it also furthered independence by restricting influence on domestic affairs....

[snipped a little bit, here and there....]

But men and women who are fighting for the survival of themselves and their children are a totally different story. Desperate people are unpredictable. Desperate people are dangerous.

Also dangerous: those who have lost their families, seen them killed or worse. Some will descend into unimaginable depths of misery, frequently with results to be found in alcoholism or catatonia. But others will have blood in their eyes and their heart, and will search from revenge in any way they can get it, from whoever they perceive as having the slightest responsibility for their loss, or worse, no longer caring.

Really, watch out for that kind, even, maybe especially, if they happen to be on your side.

Yah know, I really want to read (or write) a novel about Aztlan separatists trying to break away the American Southwest, with Amreican civilians and NG fighting against them, and UN fighter-bombers and “Peacekeepers” fighting in support of them, while a paralyzed adminstration tries get its ducks in a row to destroy the invaders and fight the UN plots against our nation.

Start here.
