The Coming Second Civil War
quesney | quesney

Posted on 09/26/2008 1:08:20 PM PDT by quesney

Folks, A profound schism in American society has been exposed and laid bare over the following years — since 9/11, through the events of Iraq to the monstrously socialist bailout of the present day.

John Edwards was right. There are Two Americas, and it is my fear that they fundamentally incompatible and irreconcilable.

We are headed for a conflict, decades in the making, approaching the intensity, scope and chaos of The Civil War.

I don't know what shape it will take or exactly when it will happen. I only know for certain it is coming and it will be messy. I only know for certain that I have little or nothing in common with "fellow Americans" such as Obama, Pelosi and a good chunk of the liberal "opposition", which I increasingly consider nothing more than a euphemism for people I consider aliens, at best.

The space for civilized debate is fast disappearing, when dealing with an "opposition" repeatedly ready to lie, cheat, distort, steal and compromise our national security, sovereignty and founding principles and repeatedly ready to abandon basic manners, civility, reality and logic, all of which are the fundamental basis for civilized debate. What do you call an "opposition" like that. Is it a threat that can be "deabted" with no longer?

I pray the coming conflict and confrontation is not violent, but it will be no less profound and no less significant than the first Civil War.

The very basic issue to be decided is just what is the United States of America, whether the Constitution no more than a piece of paper signifying nothing but pretense and old memories and whether there are still those prepared to fight for it.

Maybe principled leadership will arise that can prevent it. But I think things are rapidly developing beyond the capacity of any one figure -- however Reagenesque or Churchillian -- to stop what I fear is coming.

I am pretty sure a civil war is nearly impossible in the US in the modern age. Something about mechanized warfare...

There is allegedly a Chinese saying that you can conquer a country on horseback, but you can't rule it on horseback. The same holds true for tanks. Eventually the tax collectors and the regulators have to get out of the tanks. Then they're vulnerable. The object is not to take on the Army. They're not the enemy. The object is to take on the real enemy.

I’ve been hearing stuff like this pretty much my whole life and I’m convinced it’ll never happen. Most people, regardless of their ideological beliefs, are too passive. As long as there’s TV and Internet and iPods and whatever consumer goods people use to suffocate their minds, there’ll never be a mass uprising, much less a civil war.

Yah know, I really want to read (or write) a novel about Aztlan separatists trying to break away the American Southwest, with Amreican civilians and NG fighting against them, and UN fighter-bombers and “Peacekeepers” fighting in support of them, while a paralyzed adminstration tries get its ducks in a row to destroy the invaders and fight the UN plots against our nation.

It's been done. A WELL REGULATED MILITIA, by John J. Carpenter, ISBN 1-4137-8889-0. Available from Amazon. A very good read.

Full disclosure. I have no financial connection with either the author or the publisher.

How long would this vanity post have lasted in the news forum 10 years ago?

No longer or shorter than any other vanity that has been posted since 1996.

Black helicopter sightings lasted for weeks and Michael Rivero was an avid poster who also had a knack for drawing loonies into his conspiracy threads..........

Economic problems spur wars, and that’s why people are nervous.

If we have a real economic collapse, then our cushy way of living could be threatened.

I hope it doesn’t happen, but it makes you wonder.

The dems spent years radicalizing they left and this year the media has become 100% their propaganda machine.

When you do not give the other side a voice what do they expect to happen? It will radicalize the right also eventually. Those who have orchestrated this have not thought this through very well. I actually feel sorry for them when this happens because somehow I doubt the right will be marching in the streets, throwing bottles and burning buildings it would be quieter and much more serious. Just stupid.

All together now, SHRUG!

Wow, DAWGG! You read minds -- I almost wrote in that post that the only way to "reconcile" would be for us to pull an Ayn Rand "Atlas Shrugged." Great minds think alike, I guess!

I understand your view, and many had that same view in 1860...S. Carolina proved them wrong....if BO wins, I can see rumblings from Texas and/or Alaska to secede.

The braggadocio gun owners with their nice homes, nice cars and kids in school will never cross the line of insurrection. Their 2nd Amendment right will take a back seat to losing their walk around and buy things rights.

Insurrection should have occurred on behalf of Randy Weaver but nothing happened. Insurrection should have occurred when the various firearms stores around the country were busted by the BATF in trumped up charges but nothing happened.

Sorry to inform you but folks in this country are too darn comfortable in their perfect worlds to get involved in a messy civil war............

Maybe when the kids are too old for soccer or baseball or football but not right now............

Whammy! From the top rope comes Hot Tabasco with the sad truth and slams the thread.
Well said HT.

If I were you, I’d plan on buying a gun a day between now and Novenber 5th. And why don’t you have several already?

November 5th will probably be too late.

I would do it now but no later than October 10th.

THAT is prescient. Absolutely "seeable." Something like that is how it would wind out. Yow. Scary. Enlightened folk think it's kooksville to even be posting about civil war -- and maybe it is, in 2008. But what about 2025?

And what about society being broken down so that we don't have our beloved FR network, nor cel phones?

In a really down-and-dirty civil war, ones who would do best would be ones who know how to build and do stuff. Like build radio networks, produce food, metalwork, electronics, engineering, building. God bless mechanics, every one. Hands-on men -- and women, too. Most of the people I know who are like that lean toward the independent, conservative side.

On the other hand, a good deal of the folks I know who are liberal have no real useful skills. They're managers, marketers, administrators, teachers, artists, entertainers. When push comes to shove, they can't really produce much. The ones who tend to be conservative have hobbies that involve skills, like restoring cars -- or even building models (the original "Flight of the Phoenix" is a timeless lesson).

I would think the liberal side of this equation in such a conflict would be topheavy with lack of skills and talent. I mean, let's face it: Al Gore couldn't "survive" his ass out of a wet paper bag, nor would he have a network of folks who could.

>>You mean the south that was democrats but after the blacks were freed and given voting rights later changed all their views so that could dictate which way the darkies would vote so the could stay alive politically. Wonderful.<<

By your grammar, you must be a product of a northern enlightened public school system.

By what I can make of your twisted statement, Southerners are to blame not only for slavery, but also the Republican Reconstruction, the Democrats Jim Crow era, the Republicans intergration and the Democrats liberalism.

Not bad for a bunch of hicks!

I know a great deal of liberals in rural areas and a great many conservatives in urban areas. Let's not lump people who live in cities into liberals.

I think it's also worth remembering that voter fraud and media bias distort our perceptions of reality.

Consider how shocked Liberal America would have been if it had known in the early '90s that what, 60,000 people converged on Fort Collins, Colarado, in an unofficial, unorganized gathering, to see and show their support of Rush Limbaugh. Imagine if it had gotten the kind of publicity that a similar phenomenon would have garnered in a Liberal cause.

Liberals don't know that it happened. That ignorance distorted their perception of reality. We need to bear in mind how heavily such things shape our views, such as the makeup of city populations and how many Democrat votes are fraudulent. Although So. Cal ... well, it would be interesting. It's easy to underestimate city people -- I learned that in the Northridge Earthquake. And I also think that as a rule, Asian immigrants are very good people to have on your side.

I read 'The Fourth Turning" which describes how some major upheaval will happen every 80 years more or less. Each generations have to be at the right age. According to the authors, we are nearing that time frame now. The last upheaval was The Great Depression. They contend that we are in an unraveling period until something big happens and hones attitudes quickly.

During a Fourth Turning is a crisis when the old civic order is replaced with a new one. They don't predict what form it will take, just that it will happen in the next few years.

After hearing the anger from Rush's women callers today, I was hoping Rush would have said "I'll be in front of the Capitol at noon on Saturday. Meet me there." I bet a million people would have been there, the anger is palpable.

If you can fire more than 250 rounds from a shotgun while in close quarter combat and live to tell the tale, well then you’re a better man than me.
