NEW YORK – An officer appears to have violated police department guidelines when he used a Taser stun gun on a naked, distraught man teetering on a building ledge, officials said Thursday.

He was a menace. And yes, ill say it, im glad he wont be around to wave his weiner at my daughter in the park.
Crazy isnt evil,,, but its still a menace.
I am saying that this individual was cornered on top of the awning.
The most rational answer would have been to stall him until an airbag or canvas could have been put in place.
I think the Tasering was a tactical mistake and could well have been a violation of department guidelines.
Clearly this was not the desired outcome, and an alternative outcome was easily available.
Maybe the pervert just needed to do what the police said and then this would be a moot point????
The guy was out of his mind - he was unable to respond to police instructions.

I always go back to “all men are created equal.” - what would happen to me if I tasered somebody erratic in my home and he fell of my ledge? Arrested, sued.
I'd say it's clear as hell that this dufus cop made certain that the man wasn't "healthy" when he fell. You can't protect your head or body very well from a big fall while undergoing a debilitating charge of electricity through your body. The tazering made sure this man would fall helplessly like a bag of cement and smash himself into the pavement below. The cop who gave the order and the nitwit who carried it out should be sent out onto a ledge, naked, and then tazed. I'm sick and tired of these cops playing with their deadly new toys.

The woman called 911 to help her son and he died right in front of her eyes.

No one was inconvenienced - city employees get paid to defuse these situations. Waiting a a few minutes for a fire crew with an inflatable to show up would not have taken all day and would not have inconvenienced anyone.
This individual's death will have caused his mother unspeakable pain and will take up months and months of inquiry.
It's on page 427 of your officer's manual right before squirrel infestations and after disarming a man with a piece of fresh fruit.
Face the damn facts, the police are using their new found electric toys with abandon, and people are needlessly dying from them. They taze old crippled women in wheelchairs, little girls, whomever, and some clown is always ready to justify it. True Justice is a wonderful thing though, it is universal, and it comes around just as it is given out, and lawyers and empty excuses won't help when it arrives.

And what do you know from deadly? Taser? Deadly? Ill tell you deadly, deadly was the pre-taser options. Nuts like this used to get shot or hit with a 2 foot hickory baton when they waved knives, bats, lead pipes, etc. Now they get tased,, rest up a few days at bellview, then go back out to hurt people again. Its ok to be anti-government, Hell, i am too. But everything ain’t always Waco or Ruby ridge,,, grow up. Believe me, the crazies are lucky the tasers are out there, saves em damaged knees from batons, and in some cases from being shot. You can’t save em all. And im glad my daughter out for a walk in the park won’t ever meet this “future president” when he’s off his meds, waving his “light saber”.

Lawyers will make sure he’s a saint. But an albatross was removed from around that families neck. They can sleep at night for once without wondering if tonight is the night his “voices” tell him to stick a screwdriver in their ear.

Because, to me, a human life, even of a person with a mental illness, is worth more than temporary inconvenience to others.

What b.s. I feel so sorry for people like you, who will sacrifice their freedom and for a FALSE sense of security. And what did police do in these situations in pre-taser days? Well, I'm no kid anymore, so I remember when the cops who showed up might have carried testicles instead of tasers, and might have helped this guy instead of killing him. What are they so afraid of today, that every single potential 'situation' must be resolved with a bullet or an electric charge through someone's body? If they're too nervous and timid to do this job, then do something else.
Even the schizophrenic, mentally ill guy knew better than to throw himself off the ledge, but not the cop.
The inflatable in this case would not come from a Hollywood TV or movie set.
The individual in question was standing on an awning about eight feet wide - he could only move about four feet in either direction.

So her son's death was a blessing, then?
Who else should be killed to make other people's lives easier?
The elderly? Children with cerebral palsy? Or Downs' syndrome? The autistic?
