Hi Corin!
I took apart the .357 to make sure everything seemed okay while I try to figure out why two chambers would not fire. I wanted to eliminate everything except the 16 pound hammer springs.
The trigger pull was 4 pounds when I took it apart, and 12 pounds when I put it back together. ??!!
I knew it had to be related to the trigger spring, but how? With the revolver all buttoned up, on a blind hunch I turned it upside down, and looked down at the rear of the trigger. Two arms of the trigger spring were visible in the square hole in the frame that the trigger moves in. I took a dental pick, and just slid the two arms from side to side, trying to keep everything centered. These are items 55 and 57 in this diagram.
As near as I can figures, the closed end of the spring, which pushes down on the trigger, has a "preferred" position. Assembling the grip to the frame involves sliding the end of the spring on top of the trigger while trying to keep two springs and plungers from popping out at the same time. Sometimes, I suspect, a "non-optimal" spring placement results.
So just for grins, after the trigger pull went back to 4 pounds, I got out the .45 Ruger. It had a 5 pound pull, but with a little "spring adjustment" (like a chiropractor), it went to 4 pounds too, which I never got from it before.
Since this is a no-disassembly trick, it would be interesting if other Ruger SA owners see similar results.
I see that our WA state contingent haven’t been posting too much. Perhaps they are still out in a lake someplace trying to cool off?!
Looking back I see that our last WA posting was Ramius late on July 19th. Now I’m getting worried!
Not to worry LCS, they’re out there. Like most of us, they’re just spending less time here.
I guess we got left behind...
see more Engrish
I guess in my case it is because I’m a Papist. I understand we ALL get ‘left behind’.
Can’t just leave this hanging. It wouldn’t be prudent!
