The Hobbit Hole XXXVII - ...Down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed!

Posted on 09/25/2008 6:43:34 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

I think we’ll pull up a live feed on one of the offside computers while we’re gaming this evening.

No drinking games for me!

The DVD recorder will be running while we watch it.

I don’t know if I’ll watch the debate or not. I’m actually not all that interested in them in general. I don’t think they’re worthwhile. They’re not ~really~ a ‘debate’ anyway, and the skills that make somebody good at them aren’t skills that have much to do with being President. Normally they all just re-package tidbits from their stump speeches and we don’t hear much that’s new, or frankly even responsive to the questions.

But that said, I suppose I’ll see at least some of it. The discussion about the debate will be interesting. And more than anything— maybe, just maybe, Hussein will truly blow it somehow. That would be fun to watch.

I suspect that McCain will do just fine. He’s good in that sort of venue. Hussein, however, isn’t so good off the prompter. But he’s been preparing and rehearsing for days now so he should have a little more polish on the turd than he usually does. We’ll just have to see.

It would be fun if they veer off the foreign-policy bit a little to discuss this finance fiasco. Then to have McCain blast the 0 with a nice tidy buckshot-laden vent on the true origins of this mess: Democrats in Congress. [sigh]

That would be nice.

Oh— and my drinking game recommendations for shots at:

McCain says “my friends...”
Obama talks about his books
Obama points at the moderator
Obama points at the audience
Obama points at himself
Obama points at McCain
Obama talks about his connection to Africa
Obama talks about Rev Wrigh... uh... nevermind on that one
Obama talks about Bill Ay... nuts... nevermind that one too

I think my game will be more like:

- Locate and put self on barstool.
- Sip bourbon slowly but relentlessly anyway.

I plan to watch it because I’ve worked myself into a frenzy on theblogs. I need to figure out a way to do this full time. I plan on using the laptop and following twitter and at least one live blog somewhere.

I normally wouldn’t watch. But I think this one. Or more likely the resulting spin afterward could be pivotal.

Or not.

We'll probably watch some of it, if not all of it, depending on what time we get home.

I'll make a prediction: Zero has another "Saddleback" performance, and the pollers have to start weighting Democrats at 60% to keep things looking at all close.

That is likely what will happen. My opinion of Zero has gone from “indifferent” to “don’t like him much” to “can’t stand him”.

Evening, just got back from our walk. The Octoberfest and attendant carnival is really packing them in. No parking spaces within 3 blocks of downtown. The light show from the carnival midway is quite flashy and enjoyed best from about a block away, say our front porch.

Jackson Silver has gone to ground somewhere. He stopped by for second dinner/early supper while I was cutting the lawn.

We figured the attendance would be up since a. the weather is beautiful and b. it’s been several months since ‘old tyme daze’ and the folks are needing their funnel cake fix.

I can’t stand him either so I won’t be watching. But give a holler if he has a hissy. That would be fun to watch!

Rule is you have to take a drink every time Barry says “uh” or “um.”

How much for every stuttering episode?

Dang...that could hurt.

And am I nuts, or did Obama just start tearing down an issue he voted *for*?

I’m so confused.

You're not nuts. You're an island of conservative sanity in a world that is falling apart at the seams.

At least that's what I keep telling myself. But I'm probably nuts.

Heh...they just restructured things at work. I now sit in a small room between two Evergreen College folks. That’s Rachel Corrie’s territory. The one other guy calls himself a libertarian but thinks we need more welfare programs, etc., and thinks Obama is barely a moderate, *definitely* not a true liberal.

I’ve bitten my tongue so many times it’s a wonder I can still speak.
