The Hobbit Hole XXXVII - ...Down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed!

Posted on 09/25/2008 6:43:34 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Sing hey! for the bath at close of day
That washes the weary mud away!
A loon is he that will not sing:
O! Water Hot is anoble thing!

O! Sweet is the sound of falling rain.
and the brook that leaps from hill to plain;
but better than rain or rippling streams
is Water Hot that smokes and steams.

O! Water cold we may pour at need
down a thirsty throat and be glad indeed;
but better is Beer, if drink we lack,
and Water Hot poured down the back.

O! Water is fair that leaps on high
in a fountain white beneath the sky;
but never did fountain sound so sweet
as splashing Hot Water with my feet!

So I have had my Dillon 550 going since I got it some months back. At first I just punched some holes in the end of a folding table and mounted it there. It actually worked for a couple thousand rounds. And then the powder cylinder clocked me in the head as the table did this:

So I went out and got a folding workstand and did it right. Here is the new setup.

Works great. Nice and super compact. I will move it to a better spot once I paint the laundry room floor. Maybe tonight. Except for the work stand some bolts and the plastic bins it was all stuff I had laying around. The laptop is sitting on a swing arm I got from ex-work's property disposal place. Clamps right on the end and moves all around. Handy toy to have.

I just cranked out my first 10 .223s. Those were my first rifle rounds. Question for all reloaders out there. Is there a trick to keeping the bullet in place or do I just have to hold it until the seating die gets close enough to let go? With handgun rounds they just set there all nice what with the bell and all. But these just fall off.

So the power is out for blocks and we have no interwebs. But no, we can’t go home.

Do I have a personality feature or talent that would make me good at such a venture? :~)

The first 10 .223 went bang as expected. Now to crank out enough more to stand of 4 years of riots...

Afternoon ALL - it’s Caturday Eve.

nice shotgun, the Remington 870 - looks good, even w/o the tacticool stuff.

The SKS is an underappreciated firearm imho. Your’s is looking good.

note to self: buy more ammo components..

I like it, dependability of pump action with the convenience of detachable magazine. It does give quick followup shots, could prove handy in target rich environment. No.4 Buckshot, don’t leave home with out it.

hey... at Seatac agin. Going down for the computer room move tomorrow morning. 6am. Ouch. I don’t much like getting up and moving that early for anything that isn’t about either a fishing pole or a rifle.

We’re moving all 8 of my racks and the AT&T network rack out of the computer room, into a temporary space that we’ve made. Then they’ll remodel the computer room, and in a couple of months we’ll move it all back.

I’m sure it’ll go just fine. What could possibly go wrong?

:-)

RE: holding the bullet - I’m in the habit of holding on to the bullet until the last second, ‘course there is the occasion of holding on a spit second too long. :-) Haven’t loaded any .223s but that bullet would be a challenge to hold onto.

I mounted my single stage on a piece of boiler plate and used to C-clamp the plate to the work bench but then said, what the heck and used some of the plate holes for lag bolts and it’s now semi-permanently attached to the work bench.

Glad to hear Dillon survived the intial mounting unscathed.

I’m in. I’m primed and ready to go.

Except I don’t do midnights and I’ll start at o-dark-thirty in the morning.
