EXCLUSIVE: LETTERMAN MOCKS MCCAIN CANCELLATION Wed Sep 24 2008 17:41:58 ET

David Letterman tells audience that McCain called him today to tell him he had to rush back to DC to deal with the economy.

Then in the middle of the taping Dave got word that McCain was, in fact just down the street being interviewed by Katie Couric. Dave even cut over to the live video of the interview, and said, "Hey Senator, can I give you a ride home?"

Earlier in the show, Dave kept saying, "You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sara Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

I would like to ask David Letterman how he would react if his mom, Dorothy Mengering, were on her death bed (like the U.S. economy) and Jay Leno cracked this joke: “He can't do his show because his mom is dying?—Ha! Ha! Ha!”

News flash! The American economy is too important for petty politics. John McCain has resisted pointing the finger at the real culprits in this mess, the Democrats. This is a true sign of leadership. He knows he has to work with these clowns for a fix and there is so little time before the costs come to mainstreet.

I frequently see Dave's mom (no, he didn't crawl out from under a rock)at the gym. I think I'll put a McCain*Palin sticker on her bumper, tape her getting into her car, and send it to Dave. ::snicker::

The late night talk show a la Johnny Carson seems to have far passed its peak as an entertainment medium. It was a creature of the age before the new media.

Why are rich people like Letterman backing a Socialist?

Most rich people are socialists. Haven't you noticed that that the rats are the party of the rich and the poor -- whereas the GOP is the party of the middle class?

The Democrats are huddling together.

Now’s the time to ask them for REPARATIONS, to pay for the big mess they’ve caused.

Why should the rest of us pay for their pigheaded refusal to reform Fannie Mae?

Why should we pay for their pigheaded insistence on handing out mortgages to people who were not “vetted.”

Seems like the MSM are in lock-step with Letterman. Even Kauthammer had some negative comments about McCain’s decision and said that Obama was right when he said that a President should be able to do two things at once (debate/weigh in as Senator).

We'll send her to debate O-bambi. She'll hit him like a cement truck on nitrous oxide.

How ironic that a man that is a walking joke is so unamusing. Then again, I suppose arrogant, overrated, stuttery suits with teleprompter dependencies gotta stick together.

We don’t need to “boycott Letterman” because most of his former audience has been doing that for about 10-12 years!

Letterman used to be funny. He hasn’t been for precisely the amount of time that he has become a bitter, partisan Liberal hack!

Just a thought .. Letterman may not get renewed at the next go ‘round. His audience is smaller than that ABC “news” show (wjhatever they call it these days) that has that obnoxious English sounding Indian dude (if I wanted my news from a foreigner, I would tune to the BBC broadcasts on PBS, thanks).

I wish they’d replace Letterman with Craig Ferguson who does his former show (”Late Late Show”). Ferguson is actually funny, and creative — something that Letterman USED to be. When he was funny (and not so vocal about his idiotic political views).

I have a gap in my front teeth. Are you saying *I* can't be trusted?

I thought the form had jumped the shark when Steve Allen left. When Dennis Miller was on commercial tv, he had Steve Allen co-host for one week and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins as his guest bandleader.

It gets even better. David has Keith Olbermann on as a substitute guest. This now puts Letterman in the category of frothing moonbat. McCain could not have picked a better time to do this. It's driving the left absolutely crazy and they look like small children crying in the toy isle at the supermarket.

Letterman actually thinks that an appearance on his show is more important than the American economy. You can't get any more out of touch with real America than that. Way to go David ;o)

Pete was one of the best. While he was with NASA, he did everything but fly Mercury. Had he stayed with NASA, he probably would have commanded one of the early shuttle flights, if not the first one. He and John Young would have been the only two moonwalkers to have done that.

"A boycott could work."

Boycott the sponsors.

Follow the money and then put the income stream in jeopardy. Sponsors don't like their product thought of in a negative light.
