I'm hearing on Fox that the Republicans do not support the bailout and Pelosi says she can't get passage without Republicans.

Seriously, Obama is basically washing HIS hands clean of this, and just going on to prepare for the debate...another thing that shows he will not make a major decision on this...I think McCain did it right, it shows McCain willing to do what it takes and Obama just interested in himself.

I don't know about Republicans or the Rat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party) cadre. Though talk radio has interviewed House and Senate Republicans this morning suggesting that large numbers of Republicans are against the public "bail out."

This reminds me of the big show made by Congress such as round-the-clock sessions in the officers' club at Andrews Air Force Base to solve major economic problems and there was the looming battle known as the Gulf War. That was 1990 and we were in our annual "worst economy since the Great Depression."

(BTW, AF officer clubs stock some of the finest liquior available and the ones I visited, as a civilian, have nice restaurants, too! Poor Congress dopes.)

Let’s see if they change their minds when people can’t buy food because the banks and credit markets stop working.”

Why would that be? My company makes money, cash money, for products and services rendered. I plan to keep an income going based on that. Besides, who the Hell buys groceries on credit? I mean, if our economy is now solely based on credit for continued personal incomes then we are so screwed, blued, and tattooed that it is only a matter of a short time before it all falls down anyway.

Productive corporate growth does not require credit. Credit can a great thing, such as investment through the stock market, which is credit in itself, but to assume an economy must have credit is just plain silly. Creating money out of thin air as we do with our fiat currency is one thing that has gotten us into this mess. Someone has to pay the bill for this pyramid scheme and it should be us and not future generations.

If things are THAT BAD, then the Paulson plan is basically just kicking the can down the road.

Bad loans get bought by taxpayers.

Credit loosens up.

Big time leveraging becomes sexy again.

Liar loans come back.

Congressthings get bribed.

Bonuses hit eight figures.

OMFG - we're about to melt down!!

Wash, rinse, repeat

That this is happening right before an election is what is scaring/confusing me. Either it really IS that bad and that near, or something else is up because normally things like this are swept under the rug until after an election. I am wondering why exactly this was not able to be “lipsticked” for just a few more weeks. Any theories? When something does not make sense, something else is often up.

Paulsen: "Since you elected asshats can't get your stuff together, I resign."

What a reaction that would elicit.

How ironic and sad is it when a poster by the name of "LowTaxesEqualProsperity" would support a plan that will ensure our children and grandchildren pay confiscatorily higher taxes in perpituity.

The Dems have a majority and Bush is onboard so the woman is full of it.

The only way to block it would be a filibuster in the Senate and we have enough RINO’s that wouldn’t join the filibuster.

Pelosi just doesn’t want Democrats left holding the blame by a party line vote for a bailout Americans don’t support.

Isn’t part of the problem that they want to pass it today or tomorrow, because they are leaving to go on vacation again on Friday until January?

Obama does not want to go to Washington because he is afraid of debating without a teleprompter on this issue-—this makes him look weak—again.

Rush mentioned this on his show the other day very briefly.

He just said he didn't buy that it was all coincidence and that Obama has a lot of rich friends and he believe George Soros has something to do with this maybe.

If it very interesting that Henry Paulson's plan is the only one on the table. Henry Paulson is a big lib. And the press and Libs keep saying it has to be passed by the end of the week. That's crap. The stock market isn't’ crashing and yes credit is hard to come by but there are alot simpler solutions that socializing our economy.

Serious recession (or even short depression) today or Weimar for our grandchildren. If there is to be a collapse, let it be now, lain as close as possible to the feet of those responsible. I don’t want those yet conceived to have to deal with the major structural unwinding of our own irresponsible financial practices, while the guilty parties leave this life in comfort.

I don’t entirely buy the dire predictions being offered by proponents of the bailout, but even if their portrayal is accurate, fine. I personally stand to lose (what is to me at least) a great deal of money without a bailout, and gain a great deal with one. But that is insufficient grounds to endorse foisting national socialism (Keynes on crack) upon America in such an unprecedented dosage. $1 trillion is not enough to loosen the vise of the liquidity crunch, and the idea that the taxpayer could eventually profit from these federal manipulations is laughable...fairytales offered by the purveyors and gluttons of corporate welfare who seek to cash out ASAP on as high a note as possible. All free-lunch utopian promises are deceits.

Activist fiscal policy should die a painful death after this crisis - the Federal Reserve is a failure (short-term stability at the expense of long-term solvency), and the political manipulations forced upon the market by the failed policies of the New Deal, Great Society, and their progeny are the forces responsible for any ruin (in conjunction with those private interests conspiring in a criminal capacity to profit from the taxpayer - many of whom have long acted in the best geopolitical interests of nations other than America).

One GOP (which Bush is apparently no longer part of) plan is as good as one can hope for in this mess - cut capital gains and corporate taxes to almost nothing for 2 years. That, in conjunction with a promise of no more bailouts, will take us through this turbulence. It won’t be pretty even in the best case, fine with me. My grandfathers helped defeat fascism last century. I will not happily allow their sacrifice to be diminished by the adoption of soft fascism here. Take the money and stick it!

Another thing that would do it is open up all drilling, open up all forests to logging and stop the environmentalists, communist crap that has so hurt this country in the last 2 decades.

My calculator battery is out. What would it really be? The email I received wrote out all the zeroes, and I thought it looked like too many. However the 700 billion ought to work.

Obama is coming off in this like he doesn’t want to be involved....like the idea of being POTUS has gone to his head so much that he feels being a senator is beneath him now. He is saying that this issue is important, a crisis but yet he doesn’t want to help solve it if it means rolling up his own sleeves. I think the American people will see this as HIGHLY ELITIST!

Great news that only 4 repubs would support the bailout.

How many Democrats are not supporting it? Why can’t Pelosi get them on board? Are they afraid of losing in GOP districts?
