I love 50’s sci fi movies (everything from DTESS to Monolith Monsters and beyond!), and the original Day the Earth Stood Still always has been my favorite movie. Until this thread I didn’t know who would play Klaatu. Reeves would be the best choice I could think of. But I still doubt I will see this new version. To me, remaking this film borders on sacrilege.

I blew the reeves quote, it should have read “If the earth dies, you die, if you die the earth lives”

The original was the recipe for a goolash; the remake is a recipe for the dishwasher.

From Panic In Year Zwro to Five to This Is Not A Test to Animal Farm to Farhenheit 451 to Invasion USA, the propaganda mill has a lot of other films to TRY to remake.

"Klaatu Barada Niktu ... Whoa."

That’s one reason I reject this remake. I knew from the first instant that the “message” to the revised version would be either an envirowacko one or a Bush- or Republican-bashing one. As if the original anti-war message wasn’t good enough, even after all these years!

The Cold War-era film delivered a message opposing nuclear warfare and urging mankind to cease violence.
For the 2008 film, director Scott Derrikson opted to send an environmental message.
Reeves plays Klaatu, an alien who descends on earth to warn humans about destroying the planet.
"If the earth dies, you die," Klaatu tells Helen, played by Connelly. "If you die, the earth survives."
