Wind and solar are trivial. Neither will ever be sugnificent in America

I believe that too.

However, where did you get the information?

Do you have facts or are you just repeating something a radio actor said?

SIgnificant.

I visited the west last year. I saw many wind farms. After the first few, I began to count the windmills. I noticed that about 10% or more of the units in each farm were inoperative. That is 10% of the capital is unproductive.

Wind cannot possibly be more economical than nuclear absent perpetual enviro lawsuits.

Solar might make juice for lots of uses but is DC.

Solar has the potential to be very significant, the problem is with the way we use the energy solar produces. Our current consumption level in a household is way over what it could be with newer technologies. America is capable of being at the cutting edge of newest technologies. But flourescent lightbulbs replacing incandescent is not the way to make huge strides to better technologies which reduce consumption levels by several orders of wattage. When we do learn to use far lower levels of energy per capita, THEN solar will be a viable replacement source, freeing up oil, gas, and even coal for uses other than direct generation of power. Our need for petroleum distilates will not disappear in the next 100 years and if anything will actually grow exponentially. We have to have ways to replace dependence upon oil, gas, and coal at the levels we now consume them for transportation.
