In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
kvell \KVEL\ verb
to be extraordinarily proud; rejoice
Example sentence:
Critics kvelled over the violinist's triumphant return to the stage where she had made her debut many years ago.
Did you know?
We are pleased to inform you that the word "kvell" is derived from Yiddish "kveln," meaning "to be delighted," which, in turn, comes from the Middle High German word "quellen," meaning "to well, gush, or swell." Yiddish has been a wellspring of creativity for English, giving us such delightful words as "meister" ("one who is knowledgeable about something"), "maven" ("expert"), and "shtick" ("one's special activity"), just to name a few. The date for the appearance of "kvell" in the English language is tricky to pinpoint exactly. The earliest known printed evidence for the word in an English source is found in a 1952 handbook of Jewish words and expressions, but actual usage evidence before that date remains unseen.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

i will be interested to feel out my fellow hockey moms this weekend in re Palin. Saturday is xsboy’s first game of the season for his travel team. and friday i am meeting with 3 other Gonzaga hockey moms bc we are going to be heading up fundraising for the HS team. i hate crap like that but my friend Paula is one of the other 3, so i can’t not help out. i am so NOT a joiner, club belonger type. it grates on me!
Go Warriors.
don’t you dare be a POSEUR!
I’m not seeing that. Especially, if it’s a blowout, there will be no energy for the rioters to draw on.
i guess i don’t see it being a blowout for one thing. and if it’s close, the rioters will claim it was stolen from the black man, you know they will. heck, they claimed it was stolen from the effete elitist nabobs the last two times!
I read the memory keeper’s daughter, made me cry
Let ‘em riot. Then their favorite guy can come re-organize their communnity.
yes, that’s why i couldn’t figure out why SG wasn’t liking it, but now i realize bc we were talking about 2 diff books to each other! i feel like an idiot! There is also a Pittsburgh nexus to the Memory Keepers daughter as well, which made me like it more.
i think my neighborhood is safe from rioting, but we do know people whose neighborhoods could go up in flames if he loses, and they are very conscious of that fact!
my eyes are rolling...
Hussein Obama’s “lipstick” comment, makes me kvell in the knowledge that his campaign is in real deep excrement.
"Zis iss KOS -- ve don't 'kvell' hier..."
did you hear former San Fran mayor Willie Brown this AM? i was astounded to hear him say that Obams is feeling on the defensive and that was a misstep on his part because of it.
Ha! I gave you a pass on that one!
They should keep their powder dry. And look into moving.
duly noted. i know better than to think you would miss a salacious turn of phrase!
I have my first Spanish test tonight. Wanna bet I’m the first one done?
