Editor, Times-Dispatch:
Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.
On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba and a few months later I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress................

The Response;
Note that the letter to the editor is from a Cuban, although he has been 'HERE' for 40 years, and to STAY. One may assume he is now an AMERICAN citizen. His analogy is less than comparing apples to oranges, but at least here he can voice his opinions as LOUDLY and as SAFELY as he chooses. Manny, you' have been here for 40 yrs now. Chill buddy, you're safe! Things are different here whether you believe it or not. Plenty of Americans are inquiring about the 'CHANGE', and if you are really paying attention, the 'Change' word is being used by both political parties. Cuidado Manny, the silver haired old man just might change you into a Democrat. Just hang tight with your AMERICAN buddies, because I GUARANTEE YOU THAT WE WILL NOT BE FLEEING OUR COUNTRY ON A RAFT, INNER TUBE, OR ANY OTHER BULLSHIT CONTRAPTION! Do not try so hard to live in fear. Remember, THIS IS THE LAND OF THE FREE, HOME OF THE BRAVE!!!!! Manny, if you feel this to be a harsh response, sorry but no apologies forthcoming. I have lived in Miami for 39 years and many of my DEAR FRIENDS are CUBAN- AMERICAN. I do sense your pain in them, but not your fear. I believe in my country, the good old USA. There is no one man CAPABLE of doing to our country what you are insinuating. I find your ignorance of your 'adopted' country to be somewhat insulting, but understandable, since you choose to follow the advice of our current leadership, and live in fear. I am sure you were in fear when you left Cuba for the unknown. How is your life now? Change is not always a bad thing,eh? Remember the apples to oranges before you start rattling of names and countries from history past. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE!
Regards, Anon
Comments?
I found the second letter pretty weird. Get this quote:
‘I believe that God would never deny love or impose judgment on anyone, regardless of their “activities.” And could someone please tell me how one “corrects” homosexuality? As if it’s a choice.’
Never impose judgement on anyone regardless of their “activites”? Has this person ever actually read the Bible? LOL! God’s gonna let Charles Manson into heaven? Hitler? Stalin? He’d accept their “activites”? ROTFL!
Democrats - two lawyers; one grew up in the Chicago machine politics, and now adverstises himself as a "Reform Democrat from Chicago", and the other is a lifetime hack whose chief accomplishment is being the mob leader during the high tyech lynching of Clarence Thomas. The closest thing Obama has to executive experience is being a community organizer, which is a euphemism for somebody who follows the Jesse Jackson model of extorting money from the establishment.
Republicans - no lawyers; one Fighter Pilot who spent more time as a POW than Jimmy Carter spent as President, the other a local politican who can balance a budget and return tax proceeds to the citizens.
And which one of these tickets is change?
Give me ten years and you won’t recognize Germany
Adolf Hitler, 1935
I can tell a Communist without mistake. I am not comfortable with Mccain, but the hell I will vote for the muslin, America hating, marxist, hussein obama. My vote for mccain will be a vote against hussein obama.
I want my children and generations to come, to be free and live in prosperity, not communism; no matter what they(the left) call it.
I made the response from Anon as the idiot is related to me, Sigh.
Thanks for for your input

And I don't think you're alone. Every time I get together with my family, I feel like I was adopted.
This member is the odd one out when it comes to political philosophy. Oddly enough he is the oldest of four children. What I see driving his view is lifestyle choice and the fact that he lives in a very diverse part of our country,South Fla. He does struggle to explain why he believes B.O and the democrats would be a better choice for our country.
I am the youngest. There is somewhat of a generation gap between us. In most families I would be the liberal.
