A little Maltese was the smallest and the most courageous! He "SAT" there while the elephant was close enough to pick up a banana a few feet away from him! I saw that! Lori and her little Maltese have such a bond, don't they? And that little Maltese was so brave! Then, last night, Lori didn't have to scream, yell and threaten her dog to get her to stay through the distractions of the other contestants. There was a communication between the two of them that went beyond words. Victoria, the judge, was sure impressed.
The only problem I am having with the show is that it does put stress on the dogs, and that bothers me. Like that other competition that involved trust. Jumping off a platform into mid-air is not normal behavior and being forced to stay in a circle while others offered them treats and tried to call the dog to them, seems just mean to me. I was so happy to see that one guy release his dog from that tree stump because he felt he had made him stay too long, even though it meant he wouldn't win that competition. My dogs are very well behaved and obedient, but I just don't think I could put them through those kinds of challenges in order to win a competition.

I don't either, Lori - but wanted to say hello. Well, as you can see, I am back....for the moment anyway. Just a glutton for punishment, I guess. LOL

It's not just the small critters found in AZ. Along with bob cats and mountain lions, just 25 miles north of where I live, this critter has made some people a bit nervous:
Arizona black bears live in the thick timber at higher elevations most of the year, but during the months of August through September (our typical hunting season) bears come out of the high country in search of fat-building food sources. Some Arizona black bears travel to the lower desert elevations of their mountain ranges looking for prickly pear cactus fruit, which is very sweet and high in calories. Other bears may travel to areas with a high concentration of acorns, juniper berries or manzanita berries.

Bear Alert!
The Arizona State Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen, and golfers to take extra precautions and to be on the alert for bears while in forest areas. They advise people to wear noise-producing devices such as whistles or little bells on their clothing to alert but not startle the bears unexpectedly.
They also advise you to carry pepper spray in case of an encounter with a bear. It is also a good idea to watch for signs of bear activity.
People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear droppings.
Black bear droppings are smaller and contain berries and possibly squirrel fur.
Grizzly bear droppings have little bells and whistles in them and they smell like pepper spray.

Lori, I’m not really AWOL. I just can’t pull myself away from Sarah mania. I am so jazzed about her. What an awesome gal. I’m off this weekend for a so-called vacation. I’m going to drive down to KY and do my Katy thing at WolfPens on Saturday & Maybe Sunday. Then house cleaning for company. Again.

Have fun playing Katy in KY. I am so sorry that I haven't gotten back to you about setting up a day to post our photos of our visit with you. I've been involved in “stuff” going on and lost track of the time. But, it sounds like you've been busy too.
Yes, Sarah sure has energized McCain's ho-hum ticket, hasn't she? The left and the drive by media are in serious meltdown about now. LOL.
I will ttyl, after this weekend. Be safe, have fun!

Hmmmm.........I don't think of "bears" when I think of Arizona. I think more along the line of gila monsters and rattlesnakes. LOL
That one looks rather fierce!

Don't worry about it sweetie. You should see my Sept. calendar. I'm really looking forward to getting past the 20th. Maybe after the company is gone I will be able to breathe for awhile.
