BREAKING ON FOX: MAJOR CHANGE TO RNC CONVENTION PER MCCAIN CAMP

Posted on 08/31/2008 10:01:31 AM PDT by GOPinCa

Just heard reported on FoxNews that the McCain Campaign will be releasing a statement in 1-2 hours saying that the RNC Convention will be changed in a major way. Said something along the lines of a call to action for Americans. Some kind of telethon, fundraising event.

“Does anyone know when Gustav hits land?”

Anytime it wants to.

A fundraiser would be a great idea! Of course, there’s no damage yet, and there may actually not be much...but a preemptive strike is a fantastic idea. I don’t think McCain needs to go there - it makes him look opportunistic and pathetic, like Barry “I Wannabe a President” Obama with his fake Presidential seal.

You’ve never watched *any* PBS telethons?....:))

They *all* stall the programs until the phones get busier.

One time, it took almost -3- hours for me to watch all of “River Dance” because people weren’t donating fast enough.

It’s legalized blackmail....LOL

Making a political event into a fund-raiser for known mismanagement would be a stupid move.

100% correct. The whole idea of a telethon is ridiculous on it's face. The thought of turning the convention into a clearinghouse for cash is a PR train wreck waiting to happen. Doesn't anyone in the GOP, or for that matter here at FR, remember what happened to the millions donated by well-meaning Americans in the aftermath of 9/11? The scandals were legion! Politicians have proven time and again that they cannot handle money!

>>We hold a fund raiser for storm victims while they indulged themselves with fireworks, Greek columns and Hollywood celebrities.<<

To add to your thought.... And since we are going to be on a PLAIN SET, we’ll donate the funds that were earmarked for the original set decorations at the convention, just to get the ball rolling.

A good idea for McCain would be to set up the permanent McCain/Palin hurricane relief fund that would continue to raise money on a permanent basis to be used for resettling and fixing those people and areas affected by Hurricanes.

Not just a band aid but a permanent fund and donate the first million himself.

Non-political? Maybe they’re planning on more of a fund raising effort for the losses to come.

I know it wont matter what the RNC will do, the left will accuse them of trying to benefit from it.

Wait till we hear them whine that the RNC is trying to steal the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon donors away from helping his kids.

Hand the money to the Red Cross for a DEDICATED ACCOUNT. Then, have the RNC audit the process.

To have the regular convention would be a mistake. I can just see the MSM gleefully having a split screen with laughing, partying GOPers, while people’s homes are being blown away on the other side.

It would be political death.

But those Dems that are gloating may get what they don’t expect. Neither Bush nor Cheney are attending the convention, which will give a problem to the Obama theme, “More of the same”.

Personally, I’d rather see McCain (whom I have no love for) sitting at a direct-line phone to Jindal and the state offices of all states effected by landfall, surrounded by the rest of the GOP heads of GOP states also at phones. He can tell Jindal, “Tell me what you need” and go about getting things done with the assistance of those states.

As I stated in #64, a telethon would be a nightmare.

Sorry, you’re both just wrong. This is a humanitarian issue and people will be in need of emergency aid. If you want to argue against ~rebuilding~ (again), then after the storm that’s fine.

But this storm is going to affect more than New Orleans. Just as Katrina did. But we only heard about New Orleans because the media and the left turned it into a Bush bashing festival.

I was in New Orleans in April doing reconstruction. For every scam you heard about, there’s another 12 people just trying to put their lives back together. But they don’t make good television.

NEVER GIVE THE RED CROSS ANYTHING!!!!!!!

The American Red Cross took money that was donated in the aftermath of 9/11 to upgrade computer systems and for other internal purposes. I, like many others who were in the service, have no use or trust whatever for the RC.
