The 2008 peak of hurricane season is ramping up with Gustav and Hanna. The two storms pose threats to the U.S. At least 22 deaths in Hispanola are attributed to Gustav to date, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for Jamaica. Tropical Storm Hanna has formed in the Atlantic.

212 was verified mph, not kph? Yikes!
It is great, but as you can tell we do have our weather issues from time to time. My best friend has caught over 325 swordfish over the past 5 years.
The coastline hook at the LA-Miss borer traps a lot of water. Katrina went 40 feet, I’ve plotted the waterline and even though nobody else agrees, I know what the OH imagery showed and know what the elevation models indicate.
No call for Gus surge now, I don’t have that capability anyway. Need big computers to do that. I’ll have a rough guess posted as to where to expect max, nominal and min surge 12 to 24 hours prior to landfall.
Wish we could see in our crystal ball whether Gustav will weaken.
That is hard to imagine.
Understood, I respect your conservative opinion.
Good God in Heaven!!
We have had several pretty good outer bands come through here on Sugarloaf Key since about 2pm. Last one passed through 45 minutes ago, maybe 35mph winds, but some blinding rain with it. I managed to get out this morning and fertilize all the palm trees before the rain started. Might get a bit bumpy through the night, I expect.
RedState video of former DNC Chairman Don Fowler and U.S. Rep John Spratt (D-SC) on a commercial flight laughing that Hurricane Gustav will hit New Orleans during the RNC convention.
These people are so despicable they can’t possibly be human.
Thanks for checking in! Appreciate your local update.
I’m waiting for a 211 ambulance to get my mother and me outta here...probably tomorrow. Better be tomorrow!
I was trying to figure out your post #1032. It seemed that you were discussing minimum storm pressure (not wave height).
The pressure effects of a tropical cyclone will cause the water level in the open ocean to rise in regions of low pressure atmospheric and fall in regions of high pressure. The rising water level will counteract the low atmospheric pressure such that the total pressure at some plane beneath the water surface remains constant. This effect is estimated at a 10 mm (0.4 in) increase in sea level for every mb drop in atmospheric pressure. Normal atmospheric pressure is defined at 1013mb. Camille’s lowest recorded pressure was 905. So that’d amount to a little more than a meter in pressure surge around the region of lowest pressure. Gustov will be much higher than that.
The charts I posted are forecast swells+waves in excess of 20’ in areas (wind driven surge is much greater in magnitude than the pressure surge).
Tides are going to amount to about +0.5’ MSL between high and low tide at time of landfall; the area is very lucky in thatregard. Katrina made landfall with unusually high tides of several feet +MSL with just bonkers storm surge on top of that.
TANKS,NN,,,
Looks like Gus will get here a little early,,,
I guess I’ll sandbag tomorrow...:0/
Hanna is days away from any threat to land. By Thursday, Hanna is still predicted to be a tropical storm in the Bahamas. Plenty of time to watch.
Let me complete the sentence: "Palm Springs, California becomes even more of a 'gay' Mecca".....as if there weren't enough bumpunchers over there anyhow....
Thanks Elle! It’s about the same here. I will go outside and check, you might get some tide water in the am better be ready.
