Recently the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has discovered that these hot towers appear when the hurricane is about to intensify.

A particularly tall hot tower rose above Hurricane Bonnie in August 1998, as the storm intensified before striking North Carolina, United States. Bonnie caused more than $1 billion damage and three deaths, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the National Hurricane Center.

GFDL has it sitting off the mouth of the Mississippi by Tuesday am.
Isn’t this about the same track as Katrina?

Katrina entered the gulf by passing over south Florida rather than shooting the Yucatan/Cuba gap, if that’s what Gustav does end up doing.

Katrina went across Florida and then looped through the Eastern Gulf and north to the LA/MS border. Gustav is projected to track south of Cuba.

Any idea where the loop currents are currently located in the Gulf? That’s the ultimate wilcard, IMO.

I’m going to laugh my butt off if this thing slams into NOLA.

So that’s what drew me here. The GFDL run looked too familiar.

The track has been changed on this one several times, how likely is yet another change? How strong are the steering currents?

Interesting info although not a good sign for Haiti previously known as Saint-Domingue.

Wow, thanks but you would need a much bigger computer than I have to forecast steering from all that, too much there.

Wish I knew the answer. What I do know is the models are in unusual agreement.

If it were me, unless I lived in a bunker, I might want to head North on one of the interstates before all the good rooms were gone. As usual FR is ahead of everyone and everything in breaking.
