"Actually you’ve been here since 97 and probably remember the good ole days off “bold off, bold off, bold off”. lol What fun there was when someone forgot to close a tag. ;)"

Hey thanks for the reminder of when I actually showed up here. Must be Old Timer's Disease is taking it's toll on me. Yep, I remember those days of forgetting to close a tag, and was guilty of it myself until I got the hang of things. I wasn't a technical person then, and I'm still not a technical person. Guess I'm a lowbrow to some here on FR. But hey!! I'm happy!!

"Open html tags wasn’t funny then but it’s hilarious now. Golly, how far we’ve come! :)"

Heh that brings back some memories. SOmeone would leave their tags open then someone else would try to close them, but someone else would also try and then it was post after post of people trying to fix the tags. hehehe.

These news kids have it too easy! < /old fart mode > ;)

Sorry to disappoint you, but at my age, my most important concern is whether I'm going to wake up the next morning.

I must be lowbrow too then. I learned html on a fan forum, Rysher Highlander. You HAD to be able to post “frus”. But I kept getting into political arguments on Rysher. So another poster told me about FR. I read for a long time before joining. I thought everyone was brilliant and I’d sound like an idiot. I got over that. lol

The newer people absolutely have it easier. But it was fun back then. And I was so happy to find people that had the same opinions that I did. It was refreshing to find FR. A relief too.

Glad I'm not the only one. I tried learning html on AOL many years ago. I used to run a Civil War chat room there in the evenings. They offered some of us the opportunity to learn how to create web pages, etc., and so I signed up. I got through a few lessons, but it was too confusing to me, so I gave it up. I still have the html basics list originally posted on FR years ago, and have to refer to it from time to time.

“Just be ready to immediately scroll down when you open FR.”

It is an excellent video, I’m not criticizing that.

“or maybe you could find something really important to worry about like world peace or the chaos an Obama presidency would cause.”

My concern for those issues is already quite active and I think you know that. ;-)

I still have my "How to Post Frus" html list on my desk. LOL

I never got into it as far as webpages. I'm computer challenged. If it turns on and runs, it's a GOOD day. If not, I cry to Hubby or son. My daughter programs my cellphone. But I can set the clock on my nuker. And VCR. Well, the old one I could.

My oldest son is the computer geek in the family. He's an Apple computer expert, so anytime I have a question, I either call him or write him. He's also a computer graphics artist, and web designer, and does networking. He taught himself everything. There were no such thing as computer courses when he went to college. He sure didn't get his brains from me. I see you are a female as I am. I didn't do well in math in school either :-)

I can program my cell phone, but have to take out the instructions for my nuker to reset the time whenever the power goes out. A year or so ago I bought a VHS/DVD recorder and have yet to figure out how to set it to record programs to burn to disc. I basically wanted it to play all my old VHS tapes and probably will never use it to record anything.

I apologize for coming across as condescending. I was trying to praise the website and its founder.

Every time I see the YouTube Graphic pop up I get mad as Hell................I like being mad as hell at anything Rat. Being pi$$ed at Rats when you get up in the morning and equally pi$$ed at Rats when you go to bed at night is a good thing.......Helps one maintain the proper focus.;-)

My sons and Hubby build their own computers. I never have any idea what they're talking about. We had a problem with DSL one day so Hubby called and got a twit on the phone. She kept giving him wrong info so she became exasperated and told him to call his PC manufacturer. He said "Lady! I AM the manufacturer!" LOL

I don't try recording anything. I whine to my kids. I tried programming my cell and lost numbers so I leave it alone. I was looking at the book at the time. Good thing that I married Hubby. He's an elevator tech so he keeps up with stuff since most elevators are computer run now.

I am definitely not a technogeek. What I value about FR is the ease with which a user can read, respond, review, save, have a home page, even post an article for the input of other Freepers.

I like the format of Free Republic better than any other Forum on the web, and I respect the technological expertise of JimRob and his brother who are constantly evolving and improving the site.

"He's an elevator tech..."

So he has his ups and downs in the job.

Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm sure your both have heard it a million times.

I'm one of those people who tries to figure things out through trial and error. I can't be bothered to read through the instructions, because half the time, you're more confused afterwards. I stopped buying furniture that had to be assembled because the instructions were wrong half the time or didn't provide enough detail. I also stopped buying them because once I get down on the floor to put everything together, I have trouble getting back up :-) I'll pay someone else to do it for me or I'll just do without.

I've managed to master my Time-Warner DVR and record all my programs because I can at least fast-forward through commercials. I also managed to work out how to download programs (BitTorrent) from a UK website and burn them to DVD. Of course I had to get some pointers from my son beforehand. I've been retired for almost 5 years and it seems I have less time now than I did when I was working a full-time job.

Yeah. We hear a lot of jokes about elevators. Odd thing is, a lot of people are afraid of elevators but not escalators. An escalator can grab a shoe, shred your pants and a foot. Hubby seldom works on escalators but he helped a coworker and they found shoes and packages in the escalator pit. It's a dangerous piece of equipment if you aren't being careful.

I'm just tech challenged. I don't think that's going to change.lol

I have to go. I still have a load of roses to plant. I surely enjoyed chatting! :)

Scroll down to the bottom of the right hand sidebar and click on “Configure Sidebar.” Look for “Link Banner” and disable it.
