When an 85-year-old woman interrupted a robbery in progress at her home, she didn't back down from confrontation.
Instead, Leda Smith confronted the 17-year-old thief with her handgun and forced him to call police.
Smith returned home from church Sunday afternoon to find a burglar had broken her door. Realizing someone was still inside her home, Smith entered to find her .22-caliber revolver, Pittsburgh's WPXI-TV reported.
"I saw him move by my keyboard near the wall, but I just walked right on past him to the bedroom and got my gun," she said...

He didn't plan on the sweet old lady of contemporary lore to have a pistol nearby. But then again, seventeen and breaking into a house--I don't imagine there is a lot of forethought going on.
Granny git yer gun! ;)

Cardinal rule - if you come home and there is evidence of a break in or intruder - you do NOT go into the house.
If you are in confrontation with an intruder - even if you have them at gun point, you do not let them close enough to grab you = made him hand her the phone,
She is one plucky lady, but extremely lucky this was evidently not a hardened criminal -

Unless you are already carrying.

True, a hardened criminal would have stood behind the door, armed and ready to overtake her, because that means additional gain in the form of robbery. I think she acted upon her instincts, but we really don't know.
The end result was that a would-be thug was found quaking in his Lugz at the sight of an eight-five-year-old white woman with a .22.

GREAT story...good to see good people figting back.
My mother packed a .38 wherever she went for years, which I thought was simply wonderful.
Thank you for the ping!!!!

I would suggest that the muzzle end of ANY caliber, when pointed at one’s face, appears DISTINCTLY to take on the shape of the gaping black maw of a howitzer...
Deterrent, indeed...

“Smith obtained the firearm after a burglar broke into a neighboring home and stored it next to her bed.”
Hey worldnet - want an editor? That is either a humdinger of a misplaced modifier or a really dumb criminal. :)
