“Tienamin squares”

What’s that?

Why are you covering for the Chicoms?

God Bless America, but I will not watch this year’s Olympics.

Nor will I.

It's Little League World Series time anyway

Are there threads for each day? I can’t find the next.

Or should we just keep yakking here.

No, you aren’t. My husband and I were chilled by the entire opening ceremony. Parts were beautiful; creativity and technology were amply on display. But they could not cover the militaristic ambitions and expectations of their government. The lock-step guard which carried the olympic flag both times chilled us to the bone. Why did they do that? I thought China was thumbing their nose at the world. The children were my favorite part. I loved the song they sang in Greek toward the end. They looked and sounded like angels. Then we looked at that guard and saw their future. The world’s future, if China had its way.

I despise their government, but man did they ever have a kick ass opening ceremony. And I was not surprised.

That country THIRSTS for world leadership, down to every small village and hamlet, to almost every beating Chinese heart it seems. They say, to a man, woman and China, Zhonnguo, di yide. "China Must Be First".

It is an impressive patriotism that is awe inspiring and yet chilling at the same time. To stand in a huge sports stadium in China (as I have) with 380,000 Chinese on their feet, watching and hearing them sing in unison the national anthem, is to witness up front a power that is going to have to be dealt with in one way or another.

If anything, I for one, hope this 2008 Olympics Ceremony on Friday woke up masses of dumbass, brain dead Americans who cannot even find China on the world map, and scared them shitless to start thinking out the real world out there. Therein lies its supreme value to us, Americans, after all.

Wake up and smell the Pu Er Cha.

The mod added the “Day 1” to my title. I’m not starting a new thread each day. If anyone wants to do it, feel free.

During the closing ceremonies there will be the hand-off to London. I can’t imagine what their part of the opening ceremonies is going to be like.

I’m not surprised, either. Everything has been great.

I visited Beijing for the first time as a tourist last October. We were treated with kindness and open arms. At the airport, when leaving for the US on United Airlines, and also at customs at Dulles, we met the male Olympic rowing team...carrying their boats through the airport. They were there to practice and praised the Chinese for doing such an excellent job of constructing the waterway for the event.

Sad to say, I just watched our team come in 4th (out of 4). I did recognize the guys.

Alrighty..sounds good to me.

I just wanted a place to express my frustration with NBC over their use of the word “LIVE” on portions of the Olympic broadcast. It says live when it isn’t, and when it does, you can’t depend on it. It’s starting to frustrate me a lot. And it’s only day three.

that is all.

I’m boycotting these games. I didn’t watch the opening ceremony and won’t watch or listen to a moment of coverage.

We should not be playing games with murderers, thugs and barbarians. The Olympic spirit is not about giving tyrants a platform.

Kent state, water cannons on blacks, CIA experiments on unknowing victims. I am not saying that our government is as bad as the Chicoms, only that there are plenty of pictures that they could post to compliment the pictures of Tienamen square.
