That’s the only event important enough to watch this Olympics Doug. At least one person remembers during this celebration of the wondrous China.

The cameras weren’t unplugged, so this guy got to live a while longer. I guess that’s worthy of gold.

I hope people enjoy the sporting events, with that picture of Mao hanging around.

It would be interesting to know how many gold medals could have been won the offspring of that 50 million he is responsible for killing.

We are Conservatives. We stood by helpless as machine guns and tanks took the life of 6,000 in Tienenman Square. We could do nothing then. Now we could send a clear message, but instead we comfort ourselves that our children’s desires to compete are more important than the memory of the children of China who only wanted freedom.

It’s a sad day for me, seeing again what we have become.

Cheer on sports fans.

I’m not going to respond to folks who take me to task on this. I’m not going to contribute further on these threads. I just wanted to go on the record.

LOL Poor North Korea. I was a little disappointed they couldn’t come in with South Korea again. They could have at least got a snack that way.

“What comment? You are making no sense.”

THIS comment...it has your screen name attached to it.

you say you didn’t make it?

“I think the chinese ran out of money because they keep repeating the same 5 songs for the parade of nations. You would think it would have been simple to find enough music to fill 3 hours of the parade instead of repeating the same 15 minutes of music over and over.”

Like I said...just be appreciative. I think it’s a good opening ceremony.

Peace!

Hottest Olympic Ticket: Ralph Lauren Blazer

"For Ralph Lauren, the Beijing Olympics are the biggest fashion show ever. And it's already begun to pay off.

According to reports, shoppers are sporting the same wear as the athletes strutting around the Olympic Village. Polo pullovers are big sellers, as well as the classic polo shirts adorned with the Olympic rings, the US team logo and the classic Polo pony.

Polo senior veep of communications David Lauren calls the Opening Ceremony the company's "highest-profile moment. It's our ultimate fashion show." The big buzz, however, is on the Polo's Opening Ceremony navy blazers.

Nearly 200 jackets will be available for $695 after the opening ceremony at RalphLauren.com and at Ralph Lauren stores; Lauren expects they’ll sell out this weekend.

Former President George H.W. Bush—the US team’s honorary captain and the grandfather of Lauren’s girlfriend, Lauren Bush (hey if they marry, she’ll be Lauren Lauren!)—is getting his own opening ceremony uniform, the blazer embroidered with his POTUS 41 title.

“Whether he wears it or not, we’ll find out,” Lauren says.

Ralph Lauren Olympic uniforms hit gold

*snip*

"The collection has Lauren's trademark sporty, yet refined sensibility, offering cable knit sweater vests, polo shirts and Bermuda shorts. The opening-ceremony jacket sports an oversized polo pony on one side and the Olympic team insignia on the other. Other pieces feature the word Beijing embroidered in Chinese characters.

Select items from the collection will be sold to the general public at Macy's stores, RalphLauren.com and the U.S. Olympic Committee web site, www.usolympicteam.com.

Lauren was a natural for this gig. His designs are the visual equivalent to Aaron Copland's compositions -- Americana at their core.

Ironically, the company says inspiration for the uniforms came from "Chariots of Fire," the Oscar-winning movie about the 1924 British Olympic tack team.

Pres. Bush's remarks to the US Olympic Team today

Fencing Hall

Beijing, People's Republic of China

6:44 P.M. (Local)

THE PRESIDENT: Congratulations for representing the finest nation on the face of the Earth. (Applause.) The honorary captain and I are proud to be with you. We're here to wish you all the very best.

I first want to say thanks to the U.S. Olympic Committee, chaired by Peter Ueberroth, CEO Jim Scherr, Judge Charles Lee. I wasn't exactly sure what to say to you, except to start with, God, I love our country and I love what we stand for. (Applause.) And I love being with you.

Laura and I and a lot of our family are here to cheer you on. We're just a handful of a lot of folks who care about you a lot. There are going to be a lot of people pulling for you. We want you to win as many golds as you possibly can. (Applause.)

We appreciate all the hard work you've put in to get to this spot. It's got to be really exciting -- thinking about marching in that stadium and representing our country. So I guess all I've got to say is, go for it, give it all you've got, and may God bless you. (Applause.)

I’m glad you don’t intend to respond, because your position is indefensible.

Supporting our athletes and hailing great athleticism has NOTHING to do with ignoring, excusing, whitewashing or supporting the ChiCom scumbags.

The idea that the IOC’s naivete requires us to screw our athletes out of opportunities they’ve worked years or even decades for is beyond ludicrous.
