LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- Some Leavenworth residents have been unknowingly walking around above an underground city, and no one seems to know who created it or why.
Windows, doors and narrow paths beneath a title company at South Fourth and Delaware streets lead to storefronts stretching several city blocks and perhaps beyond.

They found a similar set up under downtown McKinney, Texas a few years ago.I think this sort of thing has been going on throughout history. There is always something to hide from someone.

When I was a kid in the early '70s, we lived out in Washington State. For entertainment we'd go to Seattle. We knew about
"underground, old Seattle", damaged in an earthquake, abandoned and built over, but never actually went there.

See my #22. My mom, who was from there, told me it was an earthquake. She may have been wrong or made assumptions on insufficient information.

I heard my tale on a tour.
Who knows?
It was cool, not matter the cause.
Seattle is a nice town. Too close to the volcanoes for my liking. I prefer the blizzards and once or twice in a lifetime hurricanes in the northeast.

A lot of cities/towns developed “undergrounds” during prohibition. The honky tonks were in the basements, and elaborate tunnel systems connected them and connected to escape routes in the event of raids.
