My one concern is what happens if/when the power goes out and my stepson and his family--including 3 little indians--need to come over! It will be pandemonium! lol!

It probably won’t start raining as soon as midnight, although we might see an outer band by then. I don’t think we’ll really see that we’re in a tropical system until 5 a.m. or so. It depends on how close you live to Galveston.
The developments in the past hour are not helpful. The center has reformed in the storm to the NNE of the prior one, and it’s now stacked with the lower level circulation under the mid-level circulation.
That suggests it will strengthen and form a visible eye and potentially develop into a hurricane overnight.
And worse, it slightly delays when the center of the storm will arrive. Instead of by noon for the worst of it, it might be 2 pm now with the “eye” further east than it used to be. That it gives it two more hours over hot water.
I work in the Marathon Oil Tower - San Felipe and Yorktown. Boss let everyone go early here too. I'm IT so I get to stay and make sure the backup tapes are safe :) lucky me...
At least if it gets bad, flooding wise, I am on the 11th floor and we have a 4 day generator, and the office fridge is stocked with cokes and orange juice...
IT huh? I suppose you got a 4 day supply of pizza too, right? ;-)
Back in the good ol' days, the oil company fridge was stocked with beer.

I have two sets of back up tapes here at the house and the boss has two sets at his place, we're ok on that aspect.
The boss said he was going in tomorrow, but I live up in Inwood North and that section floods if you cry hard, so I am logging in from home to work. Besides I have a little economy car, it doesn't swim well should the streets behave like rivers. :-)
You can do that with a privately held company.

No pizza but there is a lot of I don’t know what frozen meals in the freezer that people have brought in over the years. I guess if I had too I could nuke my way through those.

Well I live at Woodway and Voss 2.5 miles from work but right on the bayou. So I guess I will wait and see what tomorrow brings. I may ride it out up at work... At least I would have Internet so I could Freep for 4 days :)
Greetings from about a block west of the big Bungee chair at Galveston. about a block to my west is a kite shop...folks who know the island will know what I mean. He still had a kite up earlier.
Anyway...I’m staying put. flipped the button.. shields down. I got canned goods, chips...water...and 3 bottles of rum.

And if the canned goods fail...I’ll take this shot gun to those pelicans. As much as they have been diving in the water...they have to be nice a fat.

You still have time to run to the liquor store and get something to go with the cokes and orange juice in case you’re stranded
I had forgotten my Deep Woods Off® one time at my grandparents' farm. I had read somewhere that catnip repelled them, so what the heck, I gave it a try. It seemed to work.
I suggest the liquor store over by Academy sports. They are pretty nice people.

I talked to my aunt who lives in up in Central Texas...they had a storm this weekend that had 50 mph wind gusts. She has more damage than I will see here on the island...I’m hoping.

The erratic movement is presumably due to reformation of the center.
I think you’re goihg to get more than 50 mph winds, but hopefully little damage.
