HELP! Left-clicks locking up Firefox 3.0.1

Posted on 08/02/2008 8:00:27 AM PDT by Number57

I'm forced to use Opera today (not such a bad thing, but) because last night Firefox started acting weird. Clicking more than once on ANYTHING in Firefox causes it to freeze, and nothing works but hitting CTRL ALT DEL, then canceling out, and you can click again. Once. Or twice if I'm lucky.

Anyone else having this issue?

3.01 has been pretty good to me, that is once I turned off the bookmark search part of the NOT-awesome URL bar.

While it was still searching 500+ bookmarks every time I’d type a character in the URL bar my older laptop was unusable.

You can turn it off with an about: parameter or with the add-on called “Hide Unvisited 3”.

Uninstall 3.1 and reinstall 3.0.

See if that works.

[I have had to return to previous versions before.]

Just a thought:

FF seems to rely heavily on Java.

Have you upgraded Java recently?

3.0 did the same thing. Had to download 2.0.0.16 before it starting working again. WTF.

Lost all my bookmarks :/

    Cleaning a laptop keyboard:
  1. Power down laptop. Remove AC connection and battery. (You don't want the power to go on accidentally, during this process.)
  2. Use a copier or digital camera to make an image of the keyboard. (You don't want to have to reinstall the keys from memory.)
  3. Using a chip lifter, remove all the keys.
  4. Clean thoroughly. A new toothbrush works well. 91% isopropyl alcohol (DO NOT USE 70%) can help with the stubborn areas - and it dries quickly.
  5. Re-install the keys. (The image you made earlier will help it from becoming an insane jigsaw puzzle.)
  6. Reconnect battery and AC power. Power up the notebook.

I have repeatedly lost my bookmarks, so many times I made a file with the URL’s ready to replace them......I came across the following after the last time I lost them.....but following the directions revealed only the ones I had just reloaded, I have no idea if the old ones were preserved as this and linked further info indicates but after the next replay I will check first:

Think You Lost Your Firefox Bookmarks?

There is no Firefox version 3.1 (except for a possible unstable beta). Version 3.0.1 is the latest stable release. 3.0.1 would be a bug-fix version of 3.0.

BTW: I'm using 3.0.1 without any significant problems - except for sites that are written with IE specific code.

You try doing a computer search on bookmarks*.html.

FF is good about backing them up, bad about telling you where it put them.

I started exporting the file to a safe location whenever I made changes. Many times I have had to re-load that saved version.

Version 3.0.1 is the latest stable release. 3.0.1

Apparently, it isn't too stable if people are having all kinds of problems with it.

The only reason I upgraded from 2.0.0.7 (after 2.0.0.11 crashed) was because they finally fixed the memory leak in 3.0 that had been a problem since about version 0.7.

I declined upgrading to 3.0.1 or whatever the current new upgrade is.

it took me to this.....opening it reveals a bunch of online mozilla hotlinks.....

file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Firefox/defaults/profile/bookmarks.html

I closed it.....but the instructions I linked above DO take me to at least the currently loaded bookmarks, as advertised.....next time I lose them I will follow that path to see if they are held there, as I’m not sure that they were, or even if reloading them manually from my wordpad URL/bookmark file overwrites any old ones that might have been there.....I also suffer the freezup prob occasionally, and flashing cursor sometimes severely increases its flash speed - I’ve learned to let it settle down before typing.....also probs with highlighting for “copy”, specifically keeping it blue while I get to “copy”.....only online, though, not anything on the PC....

I never cared for FireFox.
I’ve always had problems with it.
Can’t say that I see what all the hoopla is about FireFox

Since loading this new version of Firefox, Firefox keeps freezing and then giving a “Not Responding” warning. After 30 seconds or so it unfreezes and I’m ok again for a while.

The only trouble I seem to have using Opera is on worldnetdaily.com.

I read a particular article and when finished the back arrow doesn’t always take me back a step to the list of articles. This is especially true when going to the original site of the article for further reading. Otherwise I only use Opera. Don’t even have internet explorer.
