FR's Gun Club - Friday's Gun Porn
None | August 1, 2008 | Shooter 2.5

Posted on 08/01/2008 5:04:06 AM PDT by Shooter 2.5

This is one of the first installments from Free Republic's Gun Club. It's going to be a daily discussion on subjects covering firearms, Gun Rights and overall firearms experiences.

Some years ago, Friday seemed to be the time to post photos of our favorite toys. I volunteered to make it a weekly occurance.

One of the things I did learn through the years, though. It's not the gun. It's just a tool in the hands of the person who makes it happen. That rusty and pitted .38 revolver may not look like much but to the owner, it may have helped in getting out of a lot of scrapes. Also, that match pistol may look good but it might have been instrumental in losing more matches than the one half it's price and bone stock.

So let's see 'em. The pretty ones, the ugly ones and the dusty ones including the old favorite grampa gave us when he passed on.

Haven’t seen the Remington. The Browning produce Model 70 is excellent. Fit and finish is superb and the bolt action is as smooth as some of the pre-64’s.

All righty then!!!!!!!!!!! GUN PORN!!!!!!!!

Here's my contribution (these are from my .22LR collection):

The top weapon in pic 1 is an Armscor M1600 .22LR. The bottom weapon is a Colt 1st Generation Woodsman (this particular weapon, according to the serial number, dates from 1938 or early 1939). Both are great plinkers!!!! :)

So nice.

Is it hard to get magazines for the Armscor and what kind of grips are on the Woodsman?

My dad and his pals sponsored our Cub Scout .22 shooting introduction. This was on the US Army base at Yokohama, Japan. The men were able to get about ten gallery rifles (like you once found in carnival shooting games.) The .22’s were $2 for a box of 50 and there was an NRA connection through the Scouts.

My dad had some buddies who were cops in the LA area of SoCal, and used to go shooting out in the desert, and hunting in the Whittier hills. They had me fire the cowboy gun to teach me to respect firearms, and then I learned to shoot with a Stevens Favorite that had been my dad's when he was a kid. He's holding it for me now. One of these days, I'll go and get it.

He buddy! :-) Ah yes....Oh...that’s NOT our pistol! I grabbed a copy from Taurus’s website! But thanks for reminding. You’re RIGHT. It’s a really bad idea to post photos of weapons that we own, showing serial numbers!

That does look like a nice piece. Ambidextrous everything would be great for me seeing how I’m a lefty.

Very cool. Looks like they’re moving on a market that Charter’s had a monopoly on, which is (probably) a good thing...

I’d rather the MP-5 in 9mm. I don’t like the magazine sticking straight out.

Go to a website called keepvid.com so you can save it to your hard drive.

I used a program called Replay Converter to change the file but I haven’t done this in quite awhile so I can’t really help in that department. You might know more than I do as to how to convert.

We're very satisfied with it! I'm wishing I could have ambi safeties on my Series 80 now. We practice "least dominant hand" drills and I like the ambi safeties. They're also long and relatively easy to release.

I was trying to convince my neighbor to buy the same Taurus the other day, and we went to the website and I didn't know that the MSRP was $827.00. I bought it through a gunsmith buddy of mine and he saved us "about" $200.00. My brother bought a Kimber recently and I think he paid "about" $800.00 for it. I've spent time with my brother's Kimber, my Colt Series 80, and this new Taurus. All in all, I like the Taurus over the Colt and the Kimber. I'm trying to scheme up a way to get me one now. :-) Even though I paid for most of it, the pistol belongs to one of my sons. I "owed" him money, so it all worked out. :-)

Is that really a left-handed .50BMG bolt action rifle, or is the pic just “inverted”? A friend of mine has loaned me his AR-50 .50BMG single shot but the cheek piece on the stock is right-handed only. As I'm a left-handed shooter I'm still trying to figure out how to wrap the stock up in something so I can get a good solid cheek weld.

Ed Brown has the best ambi safeties that I know of. I’m very disappointed in some of the ones I had already installed.

That’s a really nice looking pistol and I have a deep hatred for the Kimber melted look. They might as well found an old war relic and sandblasted it.

That Springfield on my profile page had about three hours of deburring to it. There’s a big difference between knocking off a sharp edge and radiusing a machined corner.

My Series 80 is in for a “trip” to my buddy’s shop SOON. I’ll keep in mind what you say about Ed Brown ambi safeties. Thanks!
