FR's Gun Club - Friday's Gun Porn
None | August 1, 2008 | Shooter 2.5

Posted on 08/01/2008 5:04:06 AM PDT by Shooter 2.5

This is one of the first installments from Free Republic's Gun Club. It's going to be a daily discussion on subjects covering firearms, Gun Rights and overall firearms experiences.

Some years ago, Friday seemed to be the time to post photos of our favorite toys. I volunteered to make it a weekly occurance.

One of the things I did learn through the years, though. It's not the gun. It's just a tool in the hands of the person who makes it happen. That rusty and pitted .38 revolver may not look like much but to the owner, it may have helped in getting out of a lot of scrapes. Also, that match pistol may look good but it might have been instrumental in losing more matches than the one half it's price and bone stock.

So let's see 'em. The pretty ones, the ugly ones and the dusty ones including the old favorite grampa gave us when he passed on.

Yeah, but considering how much the round should have dropped by then it was still atrocious at short ranges. I think it was about six inches at twenty feet.

I just can’t get the safeties off to get the grip safety off. I’m hoping with a little wear, it will finally loosen up.

No dremel. I was going to hand file and just break the edges around the top.

Oh, let me explain about the yardage. I have access to 400 yards. We shoot clay birds on a dirt bank at 70 yards with handguns and half a welding tank with rifles at 400. Everything has been laser ranged.

Ok, I was drooling over the High Standard. Strange isn’t it.

Really nice. I would have gone with Ed Brown ambi safties, though. I think they are wider than their competitions.

Uh, don’t think so. I read a story that said all the photographer had was a pellet gun. That’s supposedly it.

Butterfly Photo on the internet has the best deals on cameras. I think they’re in New York. Good service and prices.

I usually flip the gun around but for the Taurus, they must have put the darn numbers on every single part. I used Photoshop to clean the numbers away. The spray gun worked better than the pencil.

I will never buy another point-and-shoot digital camera that isn't Samsung.

I got a Samsung Digital Model S85 camera in June at WalMart for
$105.
Eight MegaPixels, 5X optical zoom, plenty of shooting modes.
Very good macro mode for close-ups of flowers, etc.
Heck, for this thread, I suspect it would do nice photos and
close-ups of rifles, pistols and revolvers for that matter!
(It was the last one they had at WalMart in Columbia, MO at
the time.)

It ain't a Digital SLR, the shutter release is a bit slow...
but for $105 I am VERY Happy.
If something breaks, or some larcenous stinker runs off with it...
well, I've probably will have gotten $105 worth of use out of it already!

Not that I'm down on Japan...but sending some $ to South Korea
is a nice change of pace.

Stevens was a well-known American brand and not a house brand, IIRC, although it was a bit before my time.

We didn't get over to Walmart today, so I'll check out Butteryfly Photo. :-) Thanks!

Good deal! I’ve made a note of it! It’s starting to look like we can get a really decent digital camera for “about” a hundred bucks. It was really bad timing...both cameras here broke at ONCE. Ah well...that’s the way it always works. :-)

I hope I haven’t led either of you astray.

It looks like WalMart no longer lists that model (first link).
Having watched some lawncare product vanish from the shelves at
WalMart this summer...it could be they’ve just sold out of their
allotment of that camera (or realized they shouldn’t sell such a good deal?)

But it does appear to be available from some other outlets (second link).
While those places may be reputable, I do admit a prejudice for WalMart
as I NEVER had a returned product accepted (even for just the reason
of “it’s not what I wanted”) and got my purchase price fully refunded
IN CASH.

Something that certainly doesn’t happen at other major retailers
that will remain un-named (I don’t want to be sued!)
