FR's Gun Club - Friday's Gun Porn
None | August 1, 2008 | Shooter 2.5

Posted on 08/01/2008 5:04:06 AM PDT by Shooter 2.5

This is one of the first installments from Free Republic's Gun Club. It's going to be a daily discussion on subjects covering firearms, Gun Rights and overall firearms experiences.

Some years ago, Friday seemed to be the time to post photos of our favorite toys. I volunteered to make it a weekly occurance.

One of the things I did learn through the years, though. It's not the gun. It's just a tool in the hands of the person who makes it happen. That rusty and pitted .38 revolver may not look like much but to the owner, it may have helped in getting out of a lot of scrapes. Also, that match pistol may look good but it might have been instrumental in losing more matches than the one half it's price and bone stock.

So let's see 'em. The pretty ones, the ugly ones and the dusty ones including the old favorite grampa gave us when he passed on.

He must rely on blinding the competition before he even steps past the line.

LOL! At benchrest matches you see everything from $1000+ paint jobs to bondo specials on the line. Some folks brag about having the ugliest gun. Of course the best looking gun doesn't equate to the best shooting gun.

Archy,

That's one of the purtyest 1911's I have ever seen! Please tell everyone about it as most will not recognize it as one of the first!

Please add me to your Friday night gun pron list. And folks here are invited to the Hobbit Hole's Saturday night gun pron (usually held in the wee small hours of Sunday morning). Everybody here is invited, and guest posters are encouraged. (That means I don't have to be photographing and writing at 1AM.)

And, a little something I inherited from my aunt. Just the sweetest little .22 pocket pistol ever made. Bought in about 1963, my late father made the walnut grips for it. We fired off a box of .22s, she put it away, and that was it. Discovering it while going through her things after she died brought back many good memories.

Just a little reminder to the wise:

There are a variety of free photo editing programs out there, some you can even use online. I would encourage you guys to consider blurring out your serial numbers when posting pics of your personal firearms online.

I love the pistol but like I said, I still have to go through the motions of making it all mine. The grips help. I don't feel like I'm holding onto a slab of metal.

I noticed when I dropped the barrel into the slide for assembly, it slid in with tight tolerances. No wonder it's so accurate.

Except the Taurus not only changed the dimensions on the screws, they’re metric.

Those bastards. LOL

Actually, I like the larger heads on the screws. Too bad I’m not about to chop into those lovely grips I have.

Isn’t it amazing how many rounds we shoot? I still shake my head as to the amount.

And when ammo prices went up, they interviewed hunters and they were crying how much they spend. Yeah, right.

Oh, come on, Archy. That one ain’t your’s. No cheating.

In the new “Mummy” movie, Maria Bello is holding two Canadian Browning HighPowers. The one’s with the tangent rear sights. I’ll see if I can find a pic.

Nice. How about this one:

Belgium Fobert 9MM rimfire shotgun. I used a ball cartridge in it one time and the ball bounced off a pine board. Oops.
