Hilarious example of Engrish [vanity]
back of Chinese spiderman dvd

Posted on 07/31/2008 8:26:50 AM PDT by compound w

Ok, so as some of you know, the bootleg dvds in China have "regular" packaging, often just like the real things. I pick up the Spiderman bootleg dvd and here's the English description on the back:

"Even as Scully's genetically altered DNA brings her closer to the brink of death, government agent Michael Kritschgau helps Mulder in the search for a cure, partly to atone for his own involvement with perpetuating the alien hoax. Scully's DNA comes into play once again when she discovers she is the mother of a little girl named Emily, an incident that could only be related to her abduction years earlier. But in the end it is a young boy named Gibson Praise whose body may contain genetic proff of man's relationship to an alien race and who may hold the key to unlocking the mysteries of the Spider-Man."

Then down below where it lists the actors it reads:

PRODUCTON Nicolas Cage David Tom Hanks Silent Witness David Morse pame buscemi VING RHAMES COLM MEANEY MYKEL ...

...and numerould other names that appear to have no connection whatsoever to Spiderman.

OK, both of you, I happen to be a big fan of Engrish. Can we not gay up this particular thread with arguing? Please?

I know it’s childish, but right here in the U.S., on Long Island, one of the bodegas was selling Carribean-chicken-flavored instant soup mix.

But the label simply said, in large letters: “Cock soup mix.”

Of course, I had to buy one for a buddy of mine, just so I could tell him I knew he’d like it because it was chock full of genuine Jamaican cock flavor.

Next time, I’m buying him a bottle of Jerk Sauce.

Just sayin’...

In Hong Kong about thirty years ago, a sign in a restaurant advertised snake balls. I stepped in to ask what snake balls looked like; they turned out to be the animal’s testicles - they looked like beans.

The best Chinese place in my neighborhood has a large red sign right above their door which reads:

Chinese Ho.

For some reason it's very popular.

A bit off topic, but when the Puerto Ricans started flooding into New York City in the 50s, our local Chinese laundry put up a window sign that said "We speak Spanish" - in English. We got a double kick out of it as it was the first "We speak Spanish" sign we had ever seen. Nowadays, it's a novelty to see "We speak English".

“PRODUCTON Nicolas Cage David Tom Hanks Silent Witness David Morse pame buscemi VING RHAMES COLM MEANEY MYKEL ... “

Now THAT’S what is known in the industry as an “unlikely” cast. (I think that term appears on videotape/DVD packaging when a bunch of has beens are cast where they couldn’t get the a-list actors known for those type of roles).

If he buys the real DVD while he’s in China, won’t he STILL be funding the Chi-coms?

My mother visited Japan recently and said the sign above the faucet in one hotel said “Only water comes out”. She felt they left out the obvious (cold). Still funny.
