wunderground.com. 300 IN SOA breeze.wunderground.com. ferguson.wunderground.com. 2008071502 3600 1800 604800 300
The SOA serial number “2008071502” is coded as a date - specifically, today’s date. By convention, it indicates a date, and then the “02” indicates the second change for the zone record on the date. So it looks like they probably changed the IP address of their web server.
For people who are getting the error message, the reason is probably that old host address is probably cached at your DNS server, or in your computer.
It sort of looks like they tried to move to a new web server, but encountered some problem and switched back to the old IP address. But the DNS expirations were set too long to rapidly change IPs without causing problems with DNS caching.
spectacular pic. If I’d seen something like that, it would be the day I left the cam at home
Very impressive.
Good heavens. List that one under “things you don’t ever want to see out your tent window.”
So how can I can the new address? This is my favorite site. I live out in the country and they have a local weather site that uploads from about a mile from my house. It is great to watch for the data from so close when the nearest cities are 50 miles away.
I thought it was an offshoot of the “Weathermen” radical group......LOL!
Thanks for the detailed info.
I hope it’s working. My old computer uplinks to them every 5 minutes with my weather station data. My twin brother uplinks every 2-3 seconds.
See #11 above. The regular domain name should be working again for you by tomorrow.
Thank you.
Ah! Fraternal twins
vanished like a Clinton? surely there are bubbles?
I noticed that their temperature readings have been way off for about a week now.
Message on their site now:
Notice About Site Connectivity Issues
Hello Wunderground users. We want to apologize for the connectivity issues that many of you are or have been experiencing. The problems were caused when someone at our domain name registrar inadvertently made a change to our domain name record. This essentially means that in the yellow pages of the Internet, they got our address wrong. Most people were left unable to the find our site and were instead presented with our registrar’s default page.
We’ve been working frantically here trying to do anything we could to minimize the damage. We’ve just received word that in about 2 hours most of the connectivity should be restored thanks to some quick work by our registrar. In the meantime if you’re in contact with individuals who cannot access the site through the wunderground.com domain name, please let them know that they can still access the site through weatherunderground.com.
We appreciate your patience as we try to work through these problems, and please alert our support of any other problems with the site.
What little mind they have left after all the drugs, that is......
