Now carbon offsets to fly?

Airlines Now Offer Carbon offsets

TOPICS: Travel
KEYWORDS: capandtrade; carbon; carboncredits; environment; globalwarming; offsets; transportation
Trying to make a trip later this year I entered a couple of airline websites. I am used to the "add-ons" after making a reservation that try to pull you into trip insurance, getting a hotel/car or a side adventure. Didn't expect the newest one - Carbon Offsets purchases. The offer was to purchase credits in different increments that would "offset the polluting nature of your trip".

I wonder why they even want anyone to fly? After all, that would be the best way to keep those bad carbon atoms from poisoning us, right?

I now know why Gore has been persistent in selling us his garbage, in order to snag a few unwitting souls to his global carbon offset empire.

What a joke. I was offered to buy a carbon-offset for $1.25 for a flight from Indy to Denver. What the heck would $1.25 do to offset my share of emmissions from a jet?

I do wonder how much people are making money directly off this scheme, and how much it’s just to help convince people that global warming is real so they can pass the legislation they want.

Just wait until global-warming-whackjob-lawmakers make this mandatory.

Even worse - Enterprise Rent-a-Car has been offering carbon offsets to offset folks renting from them. Needless to say - I am a Budget customer now.

thanks for the heads-up about Enterprise. I think a list of the Carbon-offset freaks should be sent out so we can avoid falling into their slime pit

Give Al Gore Your Ox $1.25 more to spread his lies than he formally had!

Then again, it may be a smart investment to buy these carbon offsets, so you can later sue them for fraud because there is no way to offset anything for that amount of money. Too bad I am not a lawyer.

I think we need a new name for them. Carbon cookies sounds better. Sounds more like you are getting something(actually nothing) for your money. Maybe we could even do a bake sale when we had extras

Let’s see... since it’s the PRODUCER, and not the CONSUMER, which is at fault (based on the experiences of the tobacco growers and gun manufacturers), clearly the OPEC nations and other net exporters of petroleum should be paying for carbon offsets.

No wonder Enterprise is so much more expensive these days. I had to rent two cars last month, to deal with family emergencies in Florida, and when I saw the current price of Enterprise rentals, I went with Budget.
