My Dragonfly And Me


If I could be a Dragon Fly
and wing my way through the sky
I would never be shy
just me and my Dragon Fly!


By moonlight we ride the wind
chase the comets tail for fun
by day we would hide from the sun
our fragile wings would come undone


On darkest nights we would use
fireflies as our guide
we would dip and we would glide
through the heavens open wide
and scatter diamonds in the night sky
my Dragon Fly and me...


And we would wing past our lovers
silent in the night...
to kiss their face in our flight
much to their surprise and delight
my Dragon Fly and me in sight...


Such a view do we share
away up here in the air
of breezes soft through our hair
my Dragon Fly and me a pair...

I roll in my bed, my pillow on my head,
in Dreamland I wish I could stay,
but what else can I do? So I throw my old shoe
at The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

The alarm stops humming, and the sunlight is coming
through the window, announcing the day,
the clock has stopped humming, but it just keeps coming,
The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

My hands keep jerking, my jaw keeps working
as I struggle to earn a day's pay,
then it's off to the pub, where I try to drub
The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

As I sit at the bar, other soldiers there are,
who were with me in the land far away,
and our fists hold our ale, and we remember the tale
of The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

Whether daylight so hot, or night when it's not,
and the moon lit the land bright as day,
you just never knew where the mortar shell flew
with The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

Sometimes you heard, the only warning word,
"Incoming!!" the sirens would bray,
and you rush inside, as you try to hide
from The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

A tall plume of smoke, and no one spoke
"Hope it missed", you would silently pray,
and it gets kind of hard, with your careful regard
of The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.

Now, my verses are done, but before you run
do one thing this Veterans' Day,
remember those who face fear, so that you'll never hear,
The Noise That Just Won't Go Away.
