1st Lady Cindy Hensley McCain

This is an interesting article as not much was known about her. She was on Leno the other night and it was an interesting interview. It turns out that she is a character as she is or has been a race car driver and is also a pilot. She flies John around the country to his rallies. After hearing that about her and reading this I now have a lot of respect for her.

Election 2008 : Cindy Hensley McCain has been disparaged as a trophy wife, a Barbie, an heiress with fancy purses, even the Paris Hilton of politics. But there's more to the picture than meets the eye.

Yes, Mrs. McCain is the perfectly coifed blonde standing dutifully behind the senator during his speeches. And yes, she wears stylish clothing and carries a Prada purse. And it's true she doesn't say much. But feminist critics who write her off as a 'stand-by-your-man' shrinking violet are selling her short. In many ways, Cindy McCain stacks up sturdier than Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. And she'd make a more impressive first lady.

Mrs. McCain: More than meets the eye.

While Obama's wife has been hating America, complaining about the war and undermining our troops serving in Afghanistan , McCain's wife has been worrying about her sons who actually are fighting or planning to fight in the war on terror. One, in fact, was until a few months ago deployed in Iraq during some of the worst violence.

You don't hear the McCains talk about it, but their 19-year-old Marine, Jimmy, is preparing for his second tour of duty. Their 21-year-old son, Jack, is poised to graduate from Annapolis And also could join the Marines as a second lieutenant. The couple made the decision not to draw attention to their sons out of! respect for other families with sons and daughters in harm's way.

Cindy also says she doesn't want to risk falling apart on the campaign trail talking about Jimmy who was so young when he enlisted she had to sign consent forms for his medical tests before he could report for duty and potentially upsetting parents of soldiers who are serving or have been killed.

The McCains want to make sure their boys get no special treatment. Same goes for their five other children, including a daughter they adopted from Bangladesh . During a visit to Mother Teresa's orphanage there, Cindy noticed a dying baby. The orphanage could not provide the medical care needed to save her life. So she brought the child home to America for the surgery she desperately needed. The baby is now their healthy, 16-year-old daughter, Bridget.

Though all seven McCain children including two Sen. McCain adopted from his first marriage are supportive of their father, they prefer their privacy to the glare of the campaign trail. Another daughter, Meghan, 23, helps him behind the scenes.

Cindy McCain not only cherishes her children, but also her country, which in an election year filled with America- bashing, is a refreshing novelty. She seethed when she heard Michelle Obama's unpatriotic remarks that she only recently grew proud of America . 'I am very proud of my country,' Mrs. McCain asserted.

She also may be tougher than the other women in the race. While Hillary thinks she's come under sniper fire on mission trips abroad, Cindy has actually seen violence. She witnessed a boy get blown up by a mine in Kuwait during a trip with an international group that removes land mines from war-torn countries.

Mrs. McCain also is a hands on philanthropist. She sits on the board of Operation Smile, which arranges for plastic surgeons to fix cleft palates and other birth defects. She also has helped organize relief missions to Micronesia.

During a scuba-diving vacation to the islands, Mrs. McCain took a friend to a local hospital to have a cut treated. She was shocked and saddened by what she saw.

'They opened the door to the OR, where the supplies were, and there were two cats and a whole bunch of rats climbing out of the sterile supplies, she recalled. They had no X-ray machine, no beds. To me, it was devastating because it was a U.S. Trust territory.'

As soon as she returned home, she arranged for medical equipment and teams of doctors to be sent to treat the island children.

Michelle Obama may contribute to CARE, which fights global poverty and works to empower poor women. Cindy sits on its board. While the Democrat women talk about helping the poor and needy, Cindy McCain actually rolls up her sleeves and does it.

Who's the out-of-touch elitist?

Sorry McCains not your “perfect” canidate.

It’s a simple thing: US Election: ..2 guys running...ones a Communist...the other has served his nation the best way he could. Wasn’t perfect; doesn’t claim to be.

YOU decide which one to trash......and which one to vote for.

This election is lost, IMO. Whoever wins, we’ll have a liberal President.

Will you still be shilling for McCain’s leftist policies in 2009?

I expect so.

Why is it that our choice is “other than Obama”? OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG.

When confronted with a choice between two evils, choose neither.

The McCain campaign would be better served if they said very little about this woman.

She dated McCain while he was still married. She stole drugs from charity boxes. She destroyed the career of the person who dropped a dime on her. If she weren’t married to a senator she would be a convicted felon.

How do you adopt your OWN children??

McCain's first wife was divorced and had two boys, Doug and Andy, when he married her. McCain adopted them. Doug is an airline pilot and Andy is an executive at Hensley & Co.

Shhhhh... And the lipstick they threw on the story of her getting a child as a shopping event is a nice “change” from the accounts I had read previously. spin spin spin.

Where can I see the last batch of original recipes?

“Why on earth doesn’t McLame have his interesting family and accomplished wife front and center in this campaign (and I don’t mean in a hokey, phony way)? Cindy and the family could earn a lot of points with people who don’t care for McQueeg himself.”

Unfortunately, this puff piece is probably not representative of a typical Cindy McCain article. The adultery, drug addiction, embezzlement and other notable aspects of her life would inevitably dominate the news.

Not to mention that she became a drug addict because of the stress of the Keating 5 scandal. No, she’s probably best left in the background.

get down off that old high horse there colcowgirl.....

It’s certainly NOT shilling to pick the best guy running and support him. That’s American politics.....and in this case; mcCain is the best thing for the Country.

Are you sure your’e not a BIG LIB....THEY usually see things as 1/2 empty.

I see McCain as 1/2 full of good stuff for us and the Country....another 1/4th that we can infulenced and 1/4th that probably no-one can influence........all and all...not bad...not bad....

I don’t buy into the whole “whiiiiineeee” that “the Country is LOST”.......

of her getting a child as a shopping event

You are sick. Cindy McCain's charity work, especially medical charity in third word countries, is legendary. She would take teams of doctors that she personally recruited into the filthiest, nastiest sh!tholes and treat children for free. A hundred million bucks and she was working 20 hour days and sleeping on filthy floors for kids she didn't know.

I was Arizona Republican but I didn't move in the same circles and my contact with McCain was usually to oppose him on something or other. Still, I can't tell you how many times, when someone in the Party fell on hard times medically, that I would hear "It's been taken care of." It was totally anonymous but we all knew where it came from: Cindy McCain.

She has touched the lives of thousands of people all over the world in a very low-key way. She is the real deal.

I believe she became addicted to pain killers after having surgery for two ruptured discs in her back. I have a ruptured disc in my neck. Sometimes the pain is so bad I can only lay flat on my back. She is a philanthropist who shuns the spotlight. Yes, she has had problems but she picked herself up and took responsibility for them. If she were a Dem people would be saying how courageous she was. The double standard is nauseating. Never mind. Mrs. McCain will be fine if she doesn’t live in the WH. She is an accomplished woman in her own right.

Listen up, "Happy"!

Look at my first post. I corrected someone's error about Cindy McCain having a commercial pilots license. That was all.

As a result, you jumped all over me. For what? For my tagline! You started throwing out the personal attacks, using terms like "small and petty," accusing me of "trashing" the McCains, added gibberish about the ol' "“perfect candidate", called me a "big lib", and now start in with the "full of hate" mantra calling me a "plain nasty person."

And now you have the gall to say that *I* got personal? Give me a break!

Enough already!

FYI, when Cindy McCain “flies” John McCain around the country to his rallies, she doesn’t do the piloting, since she does not have a pilot’s license. What it means is that he gets the use of her corporate jet at greatly reduced costs.

Thank you for clarifying... I didn't know that and the email gave the other impression.

I beg to differ with your knock of Calcowgirl. I have found her fair and knowledgeable and nice, if not provked! It is your comment that sounds nasty and hateful to me!

As one who fought against McCain's virtual amnesty for illegals last summer I am not an avid supporter. Especially when he recently assured Hispanic activists that he would put thru comprehensive legislation just as soon as he is elected.

The Dems are partly right when they say McCain is another Bush. They both are woefully stubborn and think they know better than we do over what is right for America.

McCain is a classic RINO. I will vote against Obama. Whom I vote for remains open at this point.
