What can lift a tree trunk, tote an 800-pound tire and eat a dozen eggs?
A very strong man - in fact, America's strongest.
Meet Derek Poundstone, the 315-pound, 6-foot-1 cop from Connecticut who snagged the America's Strongest Man title at last year's annual competition. He'll be showcasing his superhuman powers at "The World's Strongest Man Super Series" (a qualifier to the World's Strongest Man championship) at the Theater at Madison Square Garden tonight, competing against 11 other musclemen who have won national and international competitions. Each man will test his might by, among other things, pulling a 50,000-pound double-decker bus, carrying a refrigerator and bending a frying pan with his bare hands. So how does Poundstone plan to beat the big boys? We sat down with him to find out.
When did you make strength training a priority?
I started power lifting - where you pick the barbell at the heaviest weight you can off the ground - when I was 18. I did that for years. And then I watched the World's Strongest Man competitions on TV and found I was interested in them. So I just gave it a shot and started competing. In 2001, I won my first Strong Man competition, and in May [2007] I won America's Strongest Man.

He doesn’t have the Neanderthals forehead yet but I bet he stomps his foot to count. Testis the size of black-eye peas beneath a snap bean traded for biceps... not sure I’m up for the deal... each to his own.
California will embrace him! Just imagine if took the extra step of a lobotomy he could end up being Governor.
What a Country
a pencil-necked geek couldn’t have said it better... so I won’t even try.
I’m a “Natural” pencil necked geek... hormones all of my own production... when horses are mentioned around me the ladies have a different mind picture than they would have with this guy...
He can flex and bend fry pans... pencil necked geeks pass on their DNA so that so that morons like this guy can look at themselves in the mirror (probably passing on that very DNA while the guy is busy looking at himself)
Everyone has choices... opportunities abound...what a Country!
I’ve watched several “World’s Strongest Man” competitions, and 2 things stand out.
First, they do not do what they do for looks, but for strength. Some of the best do not have the bodybuilder look at all. They are VERY large, but they are not built for posing.
Second, based on their wives, the winners are generally doing very well at passing on their DNA in a very good part of the gene pool.
